Hello. I want to invite everyone to use my new "service" at http://1click.at powered by YOURLS URL shortening with free API access Questions? Ask me. Thanks.
Looks really nice but sorry to ask you this, maybe i didn't play around with it long enough, but when i try to copy the shorten link it pop up the "open in current window or in new one". Hmmm...it makes me hard to copy the link which after shorten i would like to use it in twitter. One more thing, i added the url myself then what's the purpose to open the link "in another windows" with the link i submitted? Isn't that it's better if you would add a "simple one click and copy" function is better than the current one? Oh one more suggestion, i have no idea whether this is available on9 (i don't really use url shortening ), maybe it's nice if we could log in to our own account and we can check the stats of the url we submitted. We can somehow monitor which traffic we got the most from various site we posted the link. Best Regards
Yust type a + after the shortened URL and that will give you stats for the URL. There will be no personal accounts at this moment. About the "Open in New Window or Current Window" I think you are right ;-) Will change it now. Thank you for that tipp, mate. Regards, Michael
This service is for FREE, you can use it with WordPress Blog with the YOURLS WordPress plugin (ask for username/password). Use it, enjoy it!
Why does anyone want another different URL shortener? The newer it is, the higher the chance that it will go belly-up, taking all its shortened URLs with it.
I can tell you that this service will be used by a company I am working for. So this server will not go down in the next years since I am involved in this project/company. And this will be a long time (since I am making lots of money with this project)!
Why would I use your service and not one of the existing established short URL services? What benefits and advantages do you offer to your users?
1) Nobody makes money on URL shortening, and nobody will. It's too easy to provide the service - a couple hours of programming (or 15 minutes of copycat script installation) and you've got yourself yet another competitor. Except most of them will have better, shorter domain names. 2) The site is really annoying - crap keeps flashing all over the place and the links like FAQ don't work.
What about major sites like Bitly and TinyURL, surely they must be generating good revenue? (To clarify, that's meant as a question, I don't know the answer).
TinyURL is probably making money, though I'd guess it's slowing down or stopping. This is only because they were the first and were able to start bringing in revenue before URL shortener users became ad-blind and/or started using APIs and bookmarklets rather than visiting the site directly. Bitly I don't know about; far as I know their main source of income is venture capital. Mostly, though, they're closing down. The pressure from spammers and the lack of a clear path to sustainable revenue is a bad cocktail.
The basic site looks OK but those annoying flashing things are not good.I still think people could make some revenue out of these types of sites albeit it will be small but the one that i still cannot grasp is the No1 Bitly its alright to get venture capital to support it while in startup mode but this is well beyond that and the investors must be thinking when will we get some return, its not as if they have any revenue coming in and how they plan on making money in the future is beyond me.
