Help choosing a host ...."you get what you pay for."

I was about to settle on a host having spent quite a lot of time trawling the net and checking out numerous "top 10 web host" ect etc .
JustHost.com frequently did well in these guides and seemed very cheaply priced, however I've found one site in particular (I'm new here and not sure whether I'm allowed to link) where many, many customers are complaining big time about them, both regarding performance and customer service.

Has anyone here used them and is it the case ...."you get what you pay for."

That's the way it always is. Think about it from your perspective, if someone pays you $3 a month (the price of a cup of coffee in a cafe) how hard are you going to work for them, and how much effort will you put in to working for that individual customer? It would take 1000 customers just to cover the cost of a basic support tech. Then you have all the hardware and software, network equipment, bandwidth, spares, other staff, and storage costs to factor in. If someone sends in a single support request per month, the company will lose money on that user. It's a matter of numbers and economies of scale, but as a user you need to be realistic about what to expect and to understand how "valuable" you really are to that company from a purely economic perspective. It's easier just to get rid of a nuisance customer than it is to attempt to give any real support.

I'm only talking generalities here, and I'm not making any points about Justhost.

I think you are doing good guesswork. That is enough. But reviews are very very important. Someone's experience is the best indicator.
