Banned before I even started!

I recently tried to set up my first Adwords campaign and google supended my account and banned me for life before I even got started. They wouldn't tell me why despite several polite emails. I have asked some people and there seems to be 2 poss reasons
    - I live in Germany so put that as my address but used a credit card registered to my UK address - maybe they think i am trying to do money laundering?
    - I bought a couple of links into my site so maybe they realised that?
Please can someone advise if you think this could be the reason??

The adwords were to do with stage schools and performing arts - so I think they were clean!

Adwords is not the only fish in the sea... try something else. After all you are just going to spend your money for advertisements

Sometime for unknown reasons these kinds of things happen mate. It could have been for any number of reasons. Anyway use some of the alternatives previously posted because they are all nearly as good as adwords :)

Did you do any blackhat SEO or click on your own ads? Those will get you banned. You can also try Chitika instead of adsense.

Many thanks for your posts re other options for advertising, I've not heard of these yet as I am new. Which one would you say would be the best / easiest for a complete novice. My new product is a range of vidoes and CDs aimed at the self help market.

Its strange! I have heard many times about adsense banning publishers for no reason but never about adwords! Adwords is too expensive, there are a lot of cheap options available on the net.

Maybe you answered your own question. What sticks out for me is that you used a credit card with a UK address and gave a German address. This will raise a flag with any company. I know, I worked for a call center for a short time. Got many calls from customers who placed online orders and gave their work phone number. That of course doesn't match with the CC company's info. Many times I've had to tell customers to change the number of the order form. The CC company then tells us the customer must call from that number or we can't approve the order.

So change your address to the one the credit card company has on file.

Exact same scenario here. I live in Czech Republic, but used a USA credit card (& mailing address). Banned for life after having the account for a week.

    so so so frustrating

Unfortunately not so easy. They confirmed that I'm banned - regardless of what credit card I use. Now, any AdWords account associated with my gmail acct

Depending on what you're advertising, check out Facebook for advertising. You can advertise a lot of offers on there, and you can direct link which can be easier than setting up LPs for adwords. Sorry to hear about the ban though.

    > that sounds so harsh

Remember that the credit card companies are trying to protect themselves too, not just Google. When I worked at the call centre, there was a special bright red symbol on our screens if there was a problem with the billing. This was as a result of the credit card company's instructions. If the client called to know why his order was not in, we were instructed not to tell them it was because their card was declined (but not tell them the reason) and to contact their CC company to sort it out. They'd have to call us back to update the order. One reason for decline was because of inconsistent address information. In fact, the company I worked for did not accept CCs issued outside of US or Canada.

It appears Google takes the hard approach that if there is a problem with your CC, they ban you.
