If you had 2 business websites and one was .net and the other was .org, with one would do better with search engines?
Domain extension won't make much difference in your ranking or PR. It depends on the quality of links that point back to your domain. SticKer
Agreed I voted for .org Even a subdomain can get good page rank. All you have to do is to optimize your site.
To the OP - you're missing the distinction between PageRank and Search Engine Results Pages. PR is a relatively agnostic number that represents the total value of all the inbound links to your site. While it has some bearing on SERPs, the much bigger impact on SERPs is the quality of your anchor tags. Either way, .net vs .org is meaningless. If both were SEOed equally well, both would SERP right next to each other. Google only awards bonus juice for TLDs that undergo some level of review, such as .gov and .edu. That's why link farms love get inbound links from those sources.
I don't think it makes much of a difference, it how you optimize your keywords and content for the name and site that counts.
If it is about page rank then it doesn't really matter if it is .org or .net, but if its about business then I would pick mybusiness.net over the .org extension.
