Hosting a blog

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by coldnorth, Feb 27, 2010.

This has probably been discussed somewhere on the forum already, I searched but found nothing. I have a couple of my forum members who are interested in a blog. Would hosting a blog on my site provide any advantages as far as ranking, indexing, etc? Would I be better off to host it on another site and/or server and then link back to my site?

You'd be better off if you just linked to your website and host it on another server.

Interlinking your sites within same server/IP can be limited up to 5.

If you are only going to create a blog and interlink this site with your main blog, then it is ok.

But, if you plan to launch 10 blogs to get link for your main site, then I suggest you to get other hosting,

Actually, I had a member ask about one and I thought that perhaps it could benefit the site.

Services are typically limited to hosting of the blog itself, ... surrounding the blogware gives advice on integrating the blogware into a personal site.

exactly it will help as it will be a new source of content for your site (if you moderate it) and also will attract good amount of links again based on the content on the hosted blogs.

Is there any such restriction. I didn't notice that.

Ye I would be keen to see where this restriction is documented, or is it just SEO lore?

I'm not sure I am following what you are saying. Do you mean that my server might limit me to 5 blogs, or just 5 interlocked sites?

I think she means from a google point of view.

Lots of sites all interlinked on the same ip is not going to look good to google.

ok, that make sense. Still, if I were to offer blogs to my visitors hosted on my site Google should not ding me for that? I mean I assume you mean sites on the same server with different url's.

So what’s the consensus, hosting a blog on my site will help it, hurt it, really make no difference?

That was my thought but, my site members may not always produce relevant content. Still, I suppose, in some ways content is content.

if you are adding a blog to the existing site, then you should host your blog on the same server under blog folder.

a blog can help you add more content easily on the site and allow visitors to submit their feedback which means more fresh content for you. if your site is abc.net, then setup a blog under blog folder with URL abc.net/blog. this way all blog entries will be still considered part of your original site.

That's what I intend to do. I also have two visitors who would also like to write a blog on the site so I am going with Wordpress, which I understand supports multiple users. So, yes, it should help keep fresh content on the site.
