Is it better to buy your own domain, than to host a blog on, say, wordpress? Do search engines "like" that option more?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that using another domain would most likely boost your results as you are using all the domains seo.

It is definitely better to own your own site, have your own hosting and domain. It gives you more freedom on what you want to do with it.

Always better to have your own domain, using a free domain can get your blog removed at any time without warning, for no reason.

I think is is a good idea to have your own domain but I don't think it matters all that much. Do a quick search for make money online on google. You see a couple sites ranked very high that are blogspot blogs.

They are also ranked very well with other search engines too. So that tells me that the domain doesn't have all that much to do with it.

Yes if you are talking about better in terms of SEO wise? Then yes, you should go with domain that you've purchased or purchase a domain that has good keywords + long life to it.

The question has been debated many times with arguments and counter arguments being thrown over all the time. Still, nothing has been able to dispense the commanding role that domains names have to play in SEO processes. The age of the domain name has been the talking point of SEO experts all these years with providers of SEO services India and outsourcing companies India trying to demystify the enigma of the name that governs an integral part of the optimization process. The age of the domain name is of great importance as it signifies the longevity of the website and helps it in scoring highly on search engines like Google.

Website age (and its backlink profile age) is what really matters however Domain age can play a minor part only as damping factor – i.e. one of the factors signaling the search engine that this might be a spammy / illegitimate site

I've read that having your own domain and your own few different blogs... is good. You can write articles about the content of your domain and put a link in your blogs pointing to your domain. Backlinks to your domain is something search engines love. People have done that with much success.

Better to buy a domain. Free hosted blogs are not that good to target and getting traffic for them is also not that easy. I am not sure how much SERP's are effected due to free blogs but to my experience i haven't found many free blogs in top search ranking...

It's pretty much always better to have your own domain... however i have ranked pretty high for some keywords using a blogspot blog. From my personal experience, however, i would say that if you can afford the cheap price of hosting and purchasing a domain, do it. Only use free services when you don't have the start up capital. They'll work... but they're not as good in the long run. Someone may decide that he wants to compete with you for the same keyword and you may lose the ranking.

Short term you may get a little benefit on some platforms that have internal linking to their hosted subdomains (I think livejournal and Xanga are a couple). The benefit though is only tiny.

Long term you'll be better off with your own domain. For one people respect hosted sub domains less and are less likely to link.

its always better to have your own domain... as last year i had few blogs of my friends on blogger and they just banned those without any prior notification or clarification.... they are still banned... all the efforts of them gone waste...
And if you ask about search engines likes.... thatz upto you how to end up inserting your tags in your template.... ;)

Host your blog with Wordpress is the wost thing anyone can do. If you want a free blog go for Blogger instead.

Wordpress tend to delete blogs for no reason after you have spent time and effort developing decent content.

If if you like that script, too much and ordinary I should say, you can install it via Cpanel, Installatron and other popular one-click script installers available through most hosting services and yes, having your own domain name is the best you can think of ;)
