In a general overview:

1. Create a crawlable site (its just like an offline site if it cannot be indexed by search engines)

2. Update content regularly (to keep the bots coming)

3. Have a well structured navigation system (text linking)

4. Allocate keywords in proper markup (TITLE, H1, H2, H3, B etc)

5. Get organic (content related) inbound links

wanna start SEO from the zeroth level....... well first ov all it is to get your website crawled by google. this is only through posting unique content. After once your website hav been crawled thn its only possible that what activities u can preform of SEO to get a PR for ur website try pinging ur website thats the best way to get your website crawled....... first do kyeword research and then start your submission work according to that.

 

Content is still King. However. you can still do your normal seo stuffs such as article marketing, building backlinks, etc. the strategy I use for my forums is just article marketing. It helps a lot.
