I was wondering for people that have site maps on their website, does it help the site or make it worse. So far when I was searching this forum, I found that it is a bad addition to your site, but let me know, Thanks
A site map page will at very least have links to all of the major pages on your site. Depending on the size of your site, it may actually link to all of your pages. This means that once the robot gets to the site map page, it can visit every page on your entire site. Having all of the content of your site included in the search engine database is a good thing: you are much more likely to come up in the search engine results when somebody is performing a search related to your topic. I voted "Alright." Sitemaps aren't the slam dunk everyone wants: an immediate boost to number one for search term "sex". Other than that, they're pretty darn good. Google sitemaps shows you the terms that show up frequently in your internal pages (your own keywords) as well as the terms others use to link to you (external SEO). This works even for links which do not show up in the site: operator. Best of all, there's a big red "ERROR" on any domains which are showing a 404 or 403, which is important when you're managing 5 or ten (or more) websites and hundreds of pages. I'm an idiot, and I find it easy to make mistakes. Sitemaps makes it easy to correct them. AND... Yahoo is now accepting them in a beta form.
I don't use sitemaps at all on any of my websites. I have read mixed reviews about adding them therefore I did not bother to invest the time and effort for sitemaps.
If you've got a small site with maybe 50-80 pages, your site map can probably have your entire site in it. But if you've got a really really large site, you can have your sitemap(s) in chunks. At the very least, you should have a "regular" html site map containing your entire site, linked from your home page.
If you have a large website, and relevant pages from your site are missing from google's index, then yes, a sitemap is good. If you've got a small site with just a few pages, then having a sitemap is useless. In either case, the sitemap can't do any harm.
I'd say sitemaps are a useful thing to have. Google sitemaps will give you details about errors also. So its a good idea to have a sitemap for your site.
Sitemaps were very helpful in getting my site fully indexed. The tools for "searches in" and anchor words are useful too.
I voted very good, It helps a lot getting newer sites up and running,I had one site with a few indexed pages under a week
I have a site that has been up for 2 months, on google i get alot of indexed pages but I have never made a sitemap, would it help me get more traffic if I did?
To time consuming and if not updated regularly could hurt your rankings, standard site-maps are fine. At least in my case.
