Digg is just... SOOO USELESS!

Ok so I messed around with social bookmarking last night for the first time and here's what I've learned about digg in particular:

    1. You don't get a Do-Follow link until like 200 people vote for your site
    2. Digg just ate my content! When I search for one of my sentences in quotes, it shows the digg site and my site is in the "omitted results". I'm guessing its because Google crawled it first.

wont ever do that again... lol!

Yeah, I shared the same experiences when trying to use Digg as a promo tool for my blogs. I gave up on it as I thought it was a waste of time.

Yeah, but the messed up part is that you never hear anything bad about Digg, everyone here will tell you to use it.

If you're using Digg only for links than Digg is wrong for you. There are many other things Digg is useful for. Mainly building a bigger Social community for your site. It also brings visitors to your site that normally would of never came to your site.

I submitted a friends site and his site got picked up by 3 large sites and that article went viral. Nobody can put a price on something like that.

If not for backlink I think it can also be used for getting traffic. But you need to have brand new content or news that people get attracted to or more specifically interested to. So, if you get more than 200 diggs then....?! nice results will only arrive for hardwork.

It's only good for traffic nowadays. And that's only if you are able to get up on the first page which is no easy thing to do. I think most people belong to digg groups that make it on the first page.

I get alot out of Stumble Upon and Redditt. You have to pick one social bookmarking site and spend time there! Digg is no good to me either!

Thanks... Reddit seems pretty cool, & same PR as Digg.

BTW, how does one go about getting people to comment, vote, etc on these types of sites?

If you have a piece of content that is of general interest to a lot of people, then I say Digg it because you can drive a lot of traffic from them, despite the nofollow attribute. I got a ton of traffic from them and from StumbleUpon for one site that was music-related. I wouldn't do it for something too niche

Digg is not for dofollow social bookmarking. As you said, enough people need to vote for your site in order for it to get notice and the link to change to dofollow. That can be quite difficult to achieve. So it is not even worth trying if you are anticipating interest level of less than that number.
