How important are backlinks than the content because I've seen a blog that has a few backlinks but good traffic.
Both are important but if your backlinks are burried in a body of bad content they will not do you much good. Interesting, informative content will always help drive traffic and keep traffic at your site. This includes content used for off page strategies. Best wishes.
Provided you have good content links are not important. I mean sure maybe one keyworded link will get you picked up but if you have useful content that google likes you will be indexed and ranked just after a pinging which is done automatically by wordpress. Mostly text links are best just for improving SE rankings.
You should always aim for quality first. Then spread your content all over to get the backlinks. It's just much more effective!
This time google gives more preference to content if your have no back link or few backlinks so its not effect on ranking bcz you have good content and content is king in SEO so make you content so you can get good traffic and ranking

Quality backlinks are more beneficial for every site. But also good and unique content is also very important.
I think both are important, you cannot ignore anyone. my site do better than competitors in content SEO, but the rank is a little bit lower, main reason is that my competitors has higher PR. Hower, before i do content SEO, ranking is much lower.
Well comparison B/w them would be next to stupidity as both are related not in a direct way but rather in an indirect way.
No one can deny the fact that content neither backlinks are important. Content will bring you repeated customers and backlinks will get you search engine ranking. However, deciding factor for SERP's is something more than backlinks. Still if you are new then its best to target low competition keywords and dedicate on getting links from as much quality websites you can. Better find links from places where you can get fast indexing of website.
