It helps sculpting pagerank and avoiding duplicate content, but it won't help you getting more pagerank. Btw, the "All in One SEO" plugin does the same plus alot more...http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
I'm using nofollow tags for every outbond link such as download links to other site (link farm) but dont use it for linkin (link to your post). The SEO is : reduce the outbound link, multiply backlink from another website in dofollow and multiply their own links from the articles on your blog. Outbound links can not be avoided, especially if the many references from other websites about your article, the solution is a nofollow tag. you also do manually <a rel="nofollow" href".....">......</a>
