if you want to run software, then go for Windows again. Most of soft. runs on Windows.

The simplest is windows xp. I don't think your ready for Linux (unless your wanting to learn a whole new operating system).

I am now thinking about Ubuntu with virtual box for windows with MS Office... I think it runs photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver and I can use virtual box for other programs, when I need them...

What do you think about it? Is Ubuntu hard to use? Is it worth it?

    Agreed!!
    1. It's just a whole new operating system :)
    2. It's freely available and you'll find Open Office out there.
Though you won't be able to use your windows software's in it.
Hmm.. why don't make your system dual boot and figure out what works best for you?

You can start with an easy linux distro like mint or superOS.more new user friendly than ubuntu(they are ubuntu based)You can use openoffice in place of office, gimp in place of PS and so forth. If you really can`t live without those programs then you can just install wine on your system(windows compatibility layer) and then run PS and office and most other windows programs and games.

That's counter-productive and the complete opposite to what you want, it makes it more complex and will use more resources than just running Windows natively.

Ubuntu can be hard, mainly video stuff, if you want to be running a screen resolution greater than 1024*768...say hello to Xorg.conf. Proprietary drivers are "restricted", but you should be able to work out easily enough how to download them. If you have a generic wireless adapter, you can kiss the internet goodbye, though, cause wireless drivers are a bitch to find, software support is useless - Open Office is crap, Adobe CS3/CS4 won't run (doesn't bother me though since I use neither), a lot of stuff is counter-intuitive and the learning curve is steep. GIMP is somewhat better than MS Paint though, and the default games are slightly better than Windows.

If you are fed up with Windows, simply because it is Microsoft and with no real logic...you sir, are an idiot. There is a reason Windows holds the monopoly on Operating Systems and it's not through corporate bully-boy tactics, it's because they provide a program that is intuitive, natural to pick up and easy enough for my grandmother to use.

If there is software you require on Windows, use Windows, simple. If not, give Linux a try, it's always good to have some experience under your belt with other operating systems and you may love it.

The simplest OS is simply Windows...preferably 7 if you can get a hold of a copy, though I can't make any informed decision since I don't know your specs. I'd recommend to stay away from XP, it's a ten year old piece of software and it is really starting to show its age.

Well, Windows 7 is not as simple as XP.

I think XP is the simplest one to use.

If you want to try another OS, then use ubuntu linux on a Virtual Box.... The most easy and user-friendly OS in the world is Windows XP.....You can also try Windows 7 but it's not as easy as Windows Xp ..

If you want a simple OS that runs Microsoft programs... you need to stick with Windows. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Windows (XP/Vista/7, fully updated all of them are excellent though XP is a bit dated) and it has support for the widest range of hardware and software of ANY operating system out there. If you find Windows too complex to use, you wont be happy with any other operating system because they are mostly more difficult to learn, and their hardware/software support doesn't come close to matching Windows.

Linux is fine if you like to tinker, Mac is fine if you have cash and like shiny things, but if you want to run MS products and have the widest range of compatibility possible, you need to run a MS operating system.
