i see it that yahoo realises it's search is weak and will never beat google, so they might as well partner with micrsoft and make money. in general though, yahoo is dying: Facebook Overtakes Yahoo: Now the Second Most Visited Site in U.S.

Yahoo's search engine has always had more visits than Bing and still does today. Just over a year ago it had 20 something percent market share. Since then, it's dropped to around 12% but still ahead of Bing. So saying Yahoo's search engine was weak is not true. If anything, Bing brought it down.

I am still a little confused. I know that the PPC platforms will be one and the same, but will general search use Bings search engine and algo? Meaning SERPS from Yahoo and Bing will be the same?

Thats interesting. I never thought Microsoft would team up with Yahoo.
Doesn't matter though, they're still the shitiest search engines.

Its all good as long as we dont have an absolute monopoly. That kind of scenario would brutal on advertisers.

No doubt that after the merger of the 2nd and 3rd largest industries in search networks there investment power will increase and their products will Definitely challenge the one from Google.

I also read about that agreement...

The weird part is that so far Yahoo search is still powered by Yahoo, and their bot keeps crawling my sites. Kinda weird to keep their bot running if they're switching to Bing, if you ask me.

It's a terrible deal for us, the consumers. Less competition is never good. It won't bring us lower acquisition costs, it won't give us better search. The only parties that will benefit are Microsoft and Google :(
