Are Backlinks becoming Dead now?

    Hi All,

Here is one of my observation:

I have seen a few websites that are number in in google for the top competitive keywords without links (in fact 1 link according to google and 12 according to yahoo). I failed to figure out why it ranks number one as it does not fulfill any condition from SEO point of view. The keyword is not in domain, not in title and it is still number one in Google.

Please share your views and what types of link work now.

    Thanks

There are many other factors which can considered while ranking a website by search engines. These are age of domain, quality links, keywords in domain etc. So don't bother about link strategy as its never going to end.

You are so right ...too many people think that the only way to rank is to get backlinks......they are missing the boat....

There are many factor that affect the ranking of a website and each and every factor should be given equal importance.

google don't let you look over their shoulder anymore.
but with a very unpopular keyword anyone could rank #1 on google - for example the site name ;-)

Hi some days ago I have asked the same question, my blog already gained more backlinks than my competitors, but till my blog can not come the top ten. So only backlinks are not all things for get ranked, as the above mentioned some people, that is the age of domain, the onpage factors, keyword in domain are also very important for get rank high. So try to make your onpage factors good.

I do not believe that back links will ever be dead. Each legitimate back link is one vote stating that the site referenced is relevant with respect to the keywords in the link.

Here is what happends in many types of industries and markets:
Site A has about 100 PR0 and PR1 in-links that are semi-relevant and relevant and ranks #1 for along time for specific keywords. Then a year later Site B comes along and knocks off Site A for the #1 spot. As we look closer at Site B's link portfolio we see that it only has 10 total in-links. How can a site with only 10 in-links rank ahead of a site with 100 links? Becuase site B has high PR links that are very relevant to the keywords.

The moral of the story is that Quality reigns supreme over Quanity. I see many people on here saying "A link is a link", but that is far from the truth.

I have backlinks that are 10 years old. They will stay as long as the site exist.

Yes, BH can do that, but it can also take your website in trouble or completely out of search engine some times...

Same here. I have a new-ish site with 130+ backlinks including a few off "trusted" sites. All links show from my cpanel but when I search in Google the site shows as having zero incoming links.
