I'm sure that I heard or read a while back that google was going to phase out PR for sites - is this still the case, does anyone know when its scheduled for?

Does it really matter, though? They'll remove it once they're ready.

I don't think they will. While they tell webmasters to place less emphasis on the tool bar, I think the number of backlinks will always be a factor in determining how to rank a website.

Not that im aware of, they appear to have put so much time into it.

The only thing that google suggest is not to become obsessed with pr, similarly not to become obsessed with any other area of seo either.

I doubt that Google will get rid of PR. Too many businesses online rely on it as a measuring factor.

Where do you have proof of them talking about getting rid of it??

Doesn't have that much importance already. Does your PR bring you more traffic?

I am sure that even if it does happen, then for us to contact you, great changes will not happen. But how then to assess the credibility of resources? I do not think that the outcome of this event that something will change drastically.

All Google empire started based on the PR algorithm at the university then Google paid over $300 millions to get full rights. I doubt they will drop what triggered their glory :)

I guess they are just making a big hype of dropping it, so that many of them will get diverted and concentrate their attention in proper SEO. By this the Big G will also get less spammy guys. I dont think they can afford to drop it as that is the main attraction of the website, if you go through google search engines, the "PR algorithm".

The latest google updates seem to place significantly more importance on PR and Domain Authority with manufacturers now appearing at the top of rankings again

You will drop your PR once you don't have enough quality backlinks.
And I don't think Google will drop it.
