It depends upon your system configuration. :)
If you have a newer configuration then Win 7 will work faster. But if you are on a older system then XP is better.

So far, no one has given a reason why a "new configuration" would run Windows 7 faster. Just guesses which tells me no one here knows.

For starters there's the superfetch feature in Windows 7. They improved it over the one in Vista. And 7 is better optimized for quad core cpus.

Ah! Someone points out something that makes sense. I don't think most people have quad core though so what about Core2 Duos?

Ya, its actually depends on your system configuration. For core series processor having min 2GB of Ram, Windows 7 is the best option for them.

Don't forget the amount of RAM. Windows 7 takes up a good bit of memory to run Aero and other background programs.

XP is truly slower if compared to Wiindows 2000 or Windows 98SE which are faster, but the slowest and resource-intensive versions of all times are Windows 7 followed by Vista

As Digital_shubhi said Windows 7 runs faster than XP on newer configurations and I would recommend the 64 bit version mainly because it allows you to use more memory. If your PC is older then you should not consider Windows 7 unless you strip it down of all the visual "Bling" and get rid of all the unnecessary items.

I read somewhere that XP starts in ~36 secs or so, and W7 does it in 32.
And you don't have to stare and loading screen like before, it's way better looking now. :)

I use Windows 7 on an idea pad & Asus net book. I find it's pretty fast, as lng as the C: hasn't been crammed, or you don't have too many applications running at once. sometimes, my netbook makes a sound like an airplane....wonder if it's because of the OS?
