i currently have a blog that is hosted with blogspot and am going to be implementing a switch over to a privately hosted wordpress blog. Heres the catch, i do not have access to the registrar account that is currently used for the blogspot account. overview: the current blogspot account has approximately 1500 posts and pages and we are using a custom domain name for it. The person who initially bought the domain name is MIA and the domain is going to expire soon. We are ok with migrating it over to a private wordpress but would not like to loose our SE and PR rankings. Would changing the custom domain in blogger be prudent to help for an easier transition to wordpress when the current domain expires? Would this hurt our current SE and PR rankings? By changing the domain for the blogspot will that invoke a 301 for SE's? ill be online for the next several hours to answer any questions the fellow DPers may have in helping me out.
ok its been a week and there is no suggestions out there? UPDATE: I have acquired the main domain so now i have access to everything needed any suggestions on how to keep my rankings in the SE's while migrating?
First of all, you don't keep your rankings in the SE's...you can say goodbye to that. Since you have admin access to the blogger blog, it's just a matter of installing Wordpress on the new domain, and using the Import Function in the dashboard to migrate the content from one blog to another....and then cleaning it up.
I appreciate your confidence but you are wrong setting up a 301 on the domain and duplicating the permalink structure should suffice just perfectly then use the a plugin to fix perma links that have words such as "the and if" Witch are not included in blogger permalinks Have a nice day
