Desktop is always better, unless you are a business man. only it has the capacity to work morethan 24hrs for a longer time.
Can not compare each with other, laps are for travelers and desktop much easier to operate at home--also full upgradable
Desktops win hands down in Value for money department - I got my machine for £400 including -22 inch monitor -1TB H/D -4GB of RAM -AMD Althlon X4 620(Quad@2.6Ghz) -ATI 4670 Laptop wise I would have got http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179792 However I didn't spend £400 all in one go. Max I spent at one time was £230 this Christmas.
Desktop give you more processor and memory for less money , but are not as portable. You pay a premium for portability.
If I have to choose I would go with a expensive laptop over a desktop computer since I have to be able to work even when I'm not at home and my desktop chassi weigh about 20kg..
Fortunately I have both. But I have started to use my laptop more often now. I find my laptop handy to use all around the house and internet connevtivity is also easy as it has WI-FI
Like some others have said already, I think it really depends on what you want out of a computer, and what kind of lifestyle you have. Normally a desktop is cheaper, more powerful, more reliable, and fully upgradeable/tweakable. Laptops offer portability while sacrificing those aspects (on average) and they generally cost more for a comparable system. For on-the-go folks, it would be a laptop anyday. For a home body, it would probably be a desktop. For me, I can't decide because I equally use both
Not really sure what this means... When people actually take care of their laptops, they last a long time mostly. The majority of mishaps are accidents (dropping the laptop), or hard drive failure (which can be an after effect of dropping it). The hard drive failure aspect is being remedied by more recent SSDs which have no moving parts, so we are looking at laptop reliability increasing greatly over the next year or two, not to mention battery technology has been getting much better these last couple years. Laptops aren't meant to die, they're meant to work, and generally they do a great job.
Problem is laptops are always fighting a losing battle because as hardware develops it normally increases in capacitor microchips etc.. so therefore because desktop are possible to always available to update hardware and they don't break unlike laptops with just everyday usage slowly are being killed.
Generally desktop is better than the laptop. Off-course it depends on the type of work as well. I prefer working on my desktop when I m at home.
Desktop, because it's easier to put in new stuff and it's also cheaper for the same thing you get from a laptop . A laptop is awesome though on vacation. What I do is having an awesome desktop, and a cheap laptop in case of emergency
Desktop is much more powerful and you get a bigger bang for your buck. I'm not going to deny that. However, I don't think people that don't own them realize just how portable a laptop is. When I say portable, I'm not talking long business trips. I'm talking about I can carry my computer with music, movies, internet, games, etc. around with me to a friends house, or even just around my house. If I want to type something up while watching TV, I can do that while lying on the couch with my laptop. If I want to sit down at a desk and do the same task, it's possible with a laptop. And although desktops are more powerful, many modern laptops are powerful and fast as well. My desktop and laptop both have the same OS, yet the laptop boots up faster. Both of hundreds of GB's of space that will take me years to fill up. So overall, I'd say laptop, simply for versatility.
I will vote for Desktop if one has to work for hours continously, i find it more faster than working on a laptop. Since Laptop is portable so i prefer to work when i am out only.
I always find it very convenient and easy to work for long hours on desktops. Laptop tend to tire me out quickly... hence I avoid working on it! Regards, RightMan
