I'm starting article directory...should I use WordPress or others?

I want to start an article directory on a new domain that I bought. I have been researching the article directory scripts available and the ones I have come across are:

    Article dashboard - free
    Article Friendly - around $50
Wordpress Article Directory software - around $50

Which do you recommend? Is there any harm in going for Article dashboard? I have read about security loopholes, etc. but I have seen a whole bunch of old and established article directories still using Article Dashboard, so I assume that everyone doesn't face a problem? If I start with it, will I have trouble transferring the articles database to another script later on? Anyone having experience with this?

Anyone know/have experience with other article directory options and what are their prices?

You could also use joomla, and do it for free. You would have to publish the articles yourself, but this would only increase quality.

Regarding Joomla, does the article directory component come with Joomla, or a separate plugin/extension has to be uploaded? Are authors able to create profiles and upload their articles by themselves? That is basically what I want.

Is anything like the Joomla extension (for pulling content from external sources/feeds automatically) available as a Wordpress plugin?

    Hi vandy,

There's almost nothing that wordpress plugins don't cover now. What you need to do is find the one that works best for your particular purpose.

articlems.com lacks sufficient seo qualities and upating the themes is 'hard' unless you're experienced...

the joomla solution would be 'wonderful' if it were easier, but also be aware that "most" of the joomla plugins are rss feeds. a lot of feeds nowadays are only 'summary' content so you wont' be keeping anyone on your site to read anything, it will all be passthrough traffic.

WP is the way to go, but after having to write a script for 6 months to do it all (there is NO one plugin or one theme or one magic wand to do it all) unless you only want a one piece orchestra.

ya, this is a little biased of a reply but i would suggest you check out my signature before moving forward.

and, although I don't use it any longer articlefriendly.com was the best investment when I was using non-wordpress/non-seo friendly software.

    Terry

Being a wordpress platform, Articless.com theme/plugin combo is customizable enough. I have used it on my own article directory site http://moneylinkreviews.org/ for quite sometime and it works just the way I want it to be.
