Directories that are not managed properly and just accept anything that come in (which is a percentage of 93%) on the web. I run a directory and have learned a lot from reviewing and has my staff as well who helps me. I do believe that my directory is not a waste of time or useless at all. We list extremely valuable listings and very proud of it. There are so many directories now, it's turning the engines into one big flood of crap and it's making the Valuable directories look like just another directory when they're not. Honest answer is, check the history of how far back the sites in that directory have been listed and the reputation of what others have said about it. The WayBackMachine plays a big role in how the site has performed even to this day, look up Google for example (amazing results).
I personally run a Cities Links Directory and its my job full time, im working on it since one year and my own salary for now is my saving account money! I have worked very hard every days and im actually working big time on SEO to grab a good PR rank. When i get a decent PR then i will start to advertise and sell links, my directory is human edited and I will only keep selective links. Just to give my opinion here, you can still find very good directory with a real team behind.
What are you thinking, backlink with pr4 from directory is better than backlink from forum back link with pr 4 or not???
True, but 87.59% of our members do it. Aside from that... based on the submissions I've seen lately I'm gonna assume directory submission is alive and well.
I can't belive that 8 people have voted no, directory submission is an essential part of any link building/SEO campaign, all of the best SEOs use directories.
I don't agree that directory submission is dead. It is a big help in SEO, backlinks, ranking & GooglePR point of view. Some directories might be a waste of time but it is not what majority are. After all, directory submission is a simple way to get long term quality/relevant incoming links for a website. Good luck,
It`s really hard to say, though Directories will give you a lot of backlinks and good for ranking, but do you think spend couple hours just get 3-4 links approved, which by the way you might need to wait for weeks or months is a good way of doing SEO? So balance what i spent and what i have, it`s wast of time to me. (Well, i am talking about Free Directories.) Nanjing Marketing Group
I personally hate directories and have no respect for them, I submitted to sooooo many directories with high PR, and still...nothing. Nada. It hasn't benefitted me at all. I find them to be cheap and sleazy. I used directory submitter pro to find all the high PR directories, it was crap, barely even worked
General directory submission is waste of time: all you can do is add your website to niche directories by yourself and submit site to DMOZ.
All the professional level SEO companys I know - Big Mouth Media, Direct Traffic Media, Green Light, ect etc - Have virtually stopped / stopped doing DS a long time ago. Submitt to the top ones ..about 20 or so and thats it. Far more worthwhile activities to be doing - Yes links for budget deals, Link Bait Content and SM pushing, Guest Posting activities, and such like now top SEO's (I know) are definatly not doing DS now after inital ones. The old standard DR BOTW etc are proper sites really and counted much differently to even 'good nice eithical DR started in the last 3 years or so etc and built great' - the link is still not poweful as at the end of the day its just a list o'links easlily counted that way and not much power passes, that our findings anyway. I don't think their dead, however their not as used as they were back in the day. Finding quality directories is always nice though. DMOZ is definitely worth trying to get into though.
how it can be dead? submission in relevant category in high pr directory gives help to promote a website. thanks
If you submit to Niche directories, it still works. Also local directories are useful. For example, if you have a real estate business in Florida, You need to find out Florida directories and real estate directories to submit your website.
