Take a minute to sit and think of WHY you believe in your certain religion. Whether it is because you were brought up with it as a child, influenced by your parents taking you to church/mosque/etc. Or whether it was for another reason, that suddenly you gained faith later on in life
I believe in Islam because of the Majesty of the Mighty Quran. If you learn the Arabic language, you will realize more and more that it is not just a book, it's a Miracle. I also believe in the Quran because it is truth. There is no single error or contradiction in It. Of course, If I was raised as a non-muslim, I would be a non-muslim, because I wouldn't know anything other than that I have been taught, but I would ask some questions in matters that I don't understand or in matters that contradict the logic and the real world in my mind. If I got no right answer, I would try to find the right answer, or if I was lazy, I would believe what I didn't believe just to not do some effort in searching for the Truth. Sometimes, people realize the truth, but they don't accept It. bad for them, especially in the long term effect. Here is a breif discription about Islam, and for what we live and for what we struggle: 23. And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. 24. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small." 25. Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance. 26. And give to the kindred his due and to the poor and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. 27. Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and the Devil is ever ungrateful to his Lord. 28. And if you (O Muhammad PBUH) turn away from them awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft kind word. 29. And let not your hand be tied (like a miser) to your neck, nor stretch it forth to its utmost reach (like a spendthrift), so that you become blameworthy and in severe poverty. 30. Truly, your Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills and straitens (for whom He wills). Verily, He is Ever All-Knower, All-Seer of His slaves. 31. And kill not your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, the killing of them is a great sin. 32. And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a shamefull, and an evil way. 33. And do not kill anyone which Allâh has forbidden, except for a just cause. And whoever is killed (intentionally with hostility and oppression and not by mistake), We have given his heir the authority [(to demand Qisâs, Law of Equality in punishment or to forgive, or to take Diya (blood money)]. But let him not exceed limits in the matter of taking life (i.e he should not kill except the killer only). Verily, he is helped (by the Islâmic law). 34. And come not near to the orphan's property except to improve it, until he attains the age of full strength. And fulfil (every) covenant. Verily! the covenant, will be questioned about. 35. And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a balance that is straight. That is good and better in the end. 36. And follow not (O man i.e., say not, or do not or witness not, etc.) that of which you have no knowledge. Verily! The hearing, and the sight, and the heart, of each of those you will be questioned (by Allâh). 37. And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height. 38. All the bad aspects of these (the above mentioned things) are hateful to your Lord. 39. This is (part) of wisdom which your Lord has inspired to you (O Muhammad PBUH). And set not up with Allâh any other ilâh (god) lest you should be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected.
I'm an Atheist, so I don't know if I qualify to answer this or not; I can tell why I am an Atheist though. I think there are three big reasons to be an Atheist in this day and age, I have many, but they're the most relevant. 1) The world has a lot of bad things in it and I think that there should be more love; thus I support gay marriage. I'd love my partner whatever his gender, and I know that he'd love me. 2) I want science and stem cell research to have the chance to progress; a child with juvenile diabetes will often have 1,100 or more injections in a year - more than they have baths, days out and picture books combined. This can be stopped, but only if medicine is able to progress. 3) Religious people will generally reject knowledge and unquestioningly accept whatever a "scholar" of their religion tells them - if their "holy" book says that, for example, if they blow themselves up killing "infidels" they're go to heaven and get a bunch of virgins to cheat on their wife/wives with - they'll actually believe it. I'd rather, personally, make up my own mind based on my own experiences, rather than blindly follow anyone else.
I am a born Hindu but it doesn't make me stick to just hinduism, I am open to all religions. I like studying about all. I try to take the good from them and ignore the bad if possible. In most of the religions I have come across, usually they are favored towards male population, females are looked as an inferior sex, we got to remember these religions are very very old so and they were hand written by male leaders, the most suffered female origins are from Islam, (plzz now don't debate on this for god's sake) as far as I re-collect. Hinduism had evil practices towards female sex but they have been eliminated as the time has gone by just back to the topic, I believe in all religions and I am not superstitious though, I just hate to see people fighting over religions, caste, creed and what not, religions were probably created for the human kind to be scared or disciplined but that has changed to extremism
I would like to add that in Islam, we are not supposed to be like jews and christians following blindly what the rabbis and monks say. They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary, when they were bidden to worship only One God. There is no god but He. Be He glorified from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)! (31) They want to extinguish Allâh's Light with their mouths, but Allâh will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the disbelievers hate (it). (32) It is He Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad PBUH) with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it superior over all religions even though the idolaters hate (it). (33) O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allâh (i.e. Allâh's religion of Islâmic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver and spend them not in the Way of Allâh, -announce unto them a painful torment. (34) We are supposed to be of Those who listen to the saying and follow the best thereof. Those are the ones whom Allâh has guided and those are people of understanding. (18)
why do u compare religions down here ? This ain't a Islam or any other specific religion thread, its a simple question why do u follow ur religion just these OT, makes these topics divert from one issue to other un-necessarily
Yes, maybe you are right. Sorry for that, I tried to clarify what that the 3rd point of alexispetrol might give of wrong messege.
It was just one extreme example of people believing a "holy book" and doing stupid, horrible things because of it. Naturally there are others but it is the best example because it involves killing yourself for what you think is the truth - it's just one reason, amongst others, I'm happier not being religious - I like to make up my mind based on my own life experiences and not on books or church/mosque/synagogue leaders ^-^;
Polite teen, "38. All the bad aspects of these (the above mentioned things) are hateful to your Lord." I don't think the Lord hates anyone or anything, to me it indicates the Quran was created by men.
That's a healthy attitude masterrio I was baptised a Presbyterian as a child. Only ever went to church for weddings and funerals and never practised in any way shape or form yet I find the stories of all of interest. That's Jainism, Hinduism, Budhism (not a religion as such they say), Judaism, Christianity Old chuch then Greek and Roman, Islam, Christian Protestants types, Seihks, Mormons and all peoples of all of some interest in some way somewhere. (note the order of age there) Equally I find those of no religion and a different outlook equally of interest. But then I found and did this > http://kd-mains.com/osama-bin-laden-revelations.htm which I have to wonder about espcecially considering both Jews and Muslims I hear say deny the Book of Revelation. I find across all the religions that believe in the One God thing there are recurring themes and just different interpretations and doctrine that goes way back to times b4 Egypt and Eastern Religions like the Jains and Hindus all understood the meaning of things like the Lotus Flower as representing something for example in a very similar way. As i say I was baptised a Presbyterian but my enquiring mind still asks the questions about the connection between the name Abram - Abraham and the Hindi Brahmn thing as I see a connection disconnected by regional languages and again different interpretations of similar themes that run through many religions.
But you think He loves everything, like lies and their generators and whatever thing is bad and low while He is the Truth, the Great? Be He Glorified, Above such thing dear Danielregwan. BTW, you can consider it as that: God loves to hate the bad things and the doers of evil.
Atheist. Because I have a functioning brain and grew out of makebelieve early on. Also I don't have disgusting veiws, like that gays should be killed, that need to be justified.
I don't believe in any religion and 99.99% of those who do have only one reason for why they believe in religion X and not Y: They were brainwashed, terrified, and forced to do it from when they were breastfed.
You can serve me and benefit yourself, and You can miss that wonderful chance and go to Hell. I don't care either way.
lol, are you threatening him with your fairy-tales? If you don't listen to what I say the Lion King will smote you down. lol.
LOL, judging about religion and claim to be God and then begging Google God to give more adsense revenue? By the way, I don't believe in any religion, but have faith in the gospel of Jesus. I know only o one church that I can consider of being the right one. I went to see them all, and found only one that keeps the law of unconditional love. Everywhere else conditions are applied, which makes it a religion.
