I have been involved in copywriting for a few years now, as well as article writing amongst other things. Up until recently i had good work which was well paid. Now though, it seems people are happy to work for crazy prices like 0.50/100 words for article writing, and copywriting seems to have basically merged into article writing, even though they are two seperate things. Where is the best place to fine work? I have had a look at some freelance sites but they all seem so bombarded with people workign for so much less... Does anyone know any good sites, or anyone who is looking for quality content? Thanks a lot for reading Alex
Alex, it is best to look at marketing and advertising agencies. Sometimes good copy writers are hard to find and therefore they hire freelancers. These aren't typically crap job .50 a word writing jobs just for the sake of article writing. These are usually good paying gigs for a set time. Check out Monster.com or Dice to see if there are any places looking for writers. Another thing you could do is compile your own work and sell it as a resale rights package or something.
I know it's crazy to work at those rates, but that's because there is a market for that. It's not easy to find a place where you're paid well enough but don't get down to those levels, it's really not rewarding and it's impossible to make any profit.
Hey Alex, My suggestion to you is to market yourself better. Instead of going to markets where your prices are being undercut, get people to come into your business. Do you do online or offline copywriting? or both? Whatever you do I suggest you create a website, write some good copy for yourself, then start getting targeted eyeballs over your offer. Have some standards on who you'll take on as a client. Put yourself in the power position. There are so many businesses that can benefit from your help, so you don't have to be desperate to get work. If your prospective clients sense desperation they more than likely won't work with you. Anyways, the main thing is to market yourself effectively. Get targeted prospects entering your business instead of trying to compete with low-end writers at freelance sites. Hope that helps - Sam
Why not you join Ub News. That group has so many sites and publish content in Google news. And if you are good writer than you can get website content writing job also.
The best way to earn is to market yourself. Make a site and market it. Keep the rates realistic and provide the content you are capable of. Glory!!
Yes, I'll have to join in with the last two posters who said "market yourself". I'm certainly no expert, but my website has been up for a total of 22 days and it's already pulling in search terms from Google and other search engines. People are performing searches and landing on my site for the answers. Spend some time in the Copywriting, Social Networks, and Advertising forums to start getting some tips on how to market yourself with a website. I highly suggest using WordPress. You can throw together a site for about $15-16. That's just for your domain and hosting...the rest is free. Make sure and do your research. Search DP before you post a thread, but if you need some answers, there are many people here who have been in the web game for a very long time. Best of luck to you.
Alex the question should be "Where can we find honest people? Do they exist anymore?" The best way is when someone has had the goodness of heart to pay you upfront is to have some integrity and professionalism about yourself to return the favour and produce the work you were paid for. Im getting tired of seeing your posts all over the place touting for work knowing full well that you haven't sent me my report which is now more than a week overdue. Im not one for airing dirty laundry in public but seeing as you want to ignore countless messages and emails i have no alternative. I am already in the process of contacting DP so enjoy it while it lasts. Anyone reading this don't hire the guy. Anyone wants proof of what i'm saying PM me. Anyone thinking why would you pay up front? I can explain that too. The question you need to ask yourself is "Was it really worth it?"
I think the problem is not users can't find the thread discussing it, but can't find an answer within the thread. There are two points to write good articles and get well-paid 1} Excellent command of English 2} Target your market. If you are writing about health, then you should be a doctor or studying a similar thing, otherwise you are going to write crap or re-write someone else articles.
Check out Constant-Content. It is basically a marketplace for writers and buyers. However, it is very stringent with quality. Misplaced one comma, and it will reject your article. Check out Demand Studio. They accept US writers only.
The thing that amazes me is that even with so much competition, a writer who writes with great English, follows directions, and produces quality work ON TIME can easily make a living writing. Most people who call themselves writers don't treat this as a business. All people want you to do is produce quality writing, on time. If you continue to search for jobs where the going rate is 0.01 per word, you'll continue to get that rate. Find people who are successful and learn what they do to succeed. Most of all, though, commit to taking on only the work you can handle and delivering the work on-time. One more thing: what sets you apart from other writers? Why should someone hire you and pay you more than someone else? Are you a native English speaker? Do you have a background in certain areas that makes you qualified to write on them? What is it about your service that sets you apart? Figure that out, and you'll be well on your way to success.
