Startig a new Directory

I'm a little new to all this,
I'm thinking of creating a new directory,
To start with I'm using a free blogger, if I get 1000 quality links.
Then I'll launch with my own domain and with a free directory script.

I'm just using caution so that I'm not going to loose anything,
I'm right or wrong, give some suggestions.

 

there are so many dirs, why start a new one? on blogspot?!

 

1) Because people want to make money even though they don't know anything about how long it takes to build an authority website (including directory)
2) Yes, a directory on blogspot sounds quite weird to me too

 

Well if you want to have a try then have it. Its good if you invest money, without input there is no output, my suggestion dont go with blogspot. How much does a domain costs? $10per year at maximum !

What ? You will create a directory in blogspot and get 1000 links. After that you will shift it to your own domain ? What about those links ?
Well, why don't you go for your own domain from now ?

 

you should use your own domain than a free one.

 

I sincerely advise you to have your own domain name...a directory on blogspot wont attract many users and you'd be starting on the wrong foot. Get a .com or .org domain (preferably)right from the start (and why free script?)...and one more thing: create a niche or a local directory instead of general unless you're willing to spend a fortune to promote it

Else, if you're budget is tight and you still want to create a directory, wait and save up some money before jumping into such project

 

There are many articles by our fellow experienced directory owners and friends in this forum/section on why you shouldn't start a web directory or why you should. Please use the search function and also google it on, to understand what niche you are about to enter.

Btw whats your defination of '1000 quality links' for it?

 

My advice would be to get a free domain (.co.nr , .tk etc etc) and get some free hosting that allows PHP and MySQL, and the download and install PHPLD (php link directory) version 2.2 (the free one). It seems more professional in honesty, and will save you hastle, since if you want to pay for a domain and better hosting, you can just migrate the files and database

 

Starting a directory that hosted on free server with a blogspot in the domain name? ....Seriously a waste of time.

Buy your own domain.. this is very essential for directories..

 

you are wasting your time, trust me. Directories are less popular those days.

 

First of all read some guides how to do it and watch some videos. Than count + and - and than decide do or not to do.

OK, threadstarter....try to think this through. Think of a few directories you have seen that you thought were "quality" directories. Now answer these questions...

• Were any of them built on free site servers?
• Were any of them built on free domains?
• Were any of them built on free directory scripts?

personally I wouldn't submit my website to any directory that is using a free domain name.
