I use centos 5 on my netbook and Scientific Linux 5 on my laptop. They are basically the same thing. Both 100% free rebuilds of Red hat enterprise linux without the price tag. Some points... 100% free 5-7 years free updates and support Virus / adware spyware free. Rock solid stable and reliable. No blue screens of death. Perfect for online work. Oh did I mention the free part
Windows 7 is being quite annoying for me at the moment. Even with a Quad Core 2.66Ghz processor and 4GB of RAM, I tend to find that I have to restart my computer a few times a day because it gets so damn slow. I am considering switching to another Operating System. On the plus side, it's better than Windows Vista.
Forgot to mention centos 5 + Scientific linux 5 on my systems are running on 1g of ram. Performance is really good like shit off a shovel! FAST FAST FAST!
Compared to Vista its simply amazing... but of course if you start comparing Windows to a Linux OS then you'll find some valid points against W7 which will give the Linux OS the upper hand. Still for a Windows OS I think W7 is the best one they came out with so far.
You can remove start up programs. Install CCleaner and try to disable un necessary Start up program. My opinion is Win 7 is good. although i have only 1GB RAM , 160GB HD, PIV(ooch processor) , 3.06GHz
Maybe you got the wrong version of Win 7. I have heard that only 1-2 version of Win 7 are designed for laptops. I have laptop and desktop running on Win 7 and its amazing,I didn't had a single problem yet. There seems to be some problem when updating to Win 7, some drivers issue. Pre Install works perfect.
Windows 7 is like the combination of WinXP + Vista .. it is the most stable and awesome Windows OS right now. @MervinKoops: you maybe should do what sivaganesh suggested. also, most computer becomes slow because of the spyware, trojans, etc... you should check on that too. im having 1.5gig RAM on my PC and it still working great.
I love windows 7 it runs better and I like the way files are sorted. The only thing I didn't like was they way windows were grouped but I fixed that.
I gave in and decided to buy a new computer with Windows 7. I was a bit nervous at first with all of the mixed reviews but I must say that I Love it!! Of course I've not had a new computer in over 7 years so that could be another reason why Windows 7 is so incredible. It's super fast and doesn't slow down like my old computer did. Love the graphics and everything else about it!
Not sure what's the problem with the OS. I just upgraded recently and the OS seems to hang randomly. Seems like I'm not the only one as well as there are other reported in tech forums. Still looking for solution right now.
I have core i7 Gaming PC and I never had any problem with Windows 7 and I also love its new features. I did take 1-2 months for me to get used to it but now it rocks!
@lycos: you should check on your processor, gfx, RAM, for that. win7 eats all of that. And try scan your computer with different AV's .. plus, clean your registry.
Hey am using windows 7 for five months..It was really great and superb..Not a single problem for me....
So far, I'm trying to troubleshoot what's the exact problem causing the hang. I'm suspecting it could be some newly installed program which are not compatible with windows. So I've just uninstalled to see whether it helps.
I'm using Windows XP and the 'simplicity' factor stops me switching to Windows 7. In Win 7, the start menu is so small and the Control Panel is complete mess.
Windows 7 is great, you should try re-installing the OS if you're facing so many problems. But yes, nothing beats simplicity of Windows XP. I use both on difference machines.
