    Pinging is a lot of fun. Pingler with its list of successful pings is truly satisfying.

    BUT, not to rain on the parade, could someone explain to me what the value and benefits of pinging are? I've never seen an article on it and would love to know....

    Is it useful for all sites or just blogs and forums?
    Is it like a site submission or a notification of an update?
    How does google, yahoo, bing, and other search engines or directories react to a ping?
    Should every page be pinged or just a site?
    How often?

    I know that blogger and wordpress have pinging built-in so that each post automatically pings some sites. What sites do they ping automatically? Is it the same as pingler?
