Increase load speed of website??

    Hey guys,

Just wondering, any way to increase the load speed of one of my wordpress blogs? It was working super fast when I first uploaded all of the files, but then I decided to use the SEO plugin tool which renamed all of the urls, and I had to use mod_rewrite in the .htaccess file to enable the redirect to happen. Now the site is insanely slow and I am afraid that people will not visit the site because of how slow it is! Any way to increase the speed??

    BTW the site is http://www.watchfamilyguyonline-streamr.com

    Thank you!!

Remove as many plugins as possible, this will speed it up. You could also install a caching plugin, such as wp-cache, or if you have root access to the server you could install server-level caching such as eAccelerator or APC.

Other than that, look into the template and make sure nothing in there is slowing down the loading. Plugins are known to slow things down though, and sometimes mess things up all together.

    Hey,

Thanks for the help! Just wondering, would I need a dedicated server to install eAccelerator? My hosting is with Godaddy and I have looked up how to install eAccelerator but it seems like I would need my own server for that,

    Regards

That's what I meant by root access, you would need permissions to get it installed. You would need a VPS or a dedicated server to do this. :)

I'd say there's something amiss with your server as mod_rewrite shouldn't slow it down THAT much. It seems like the load for the php just sits there hanging - not sure if that's mySQL load, or the mod_rewrite sitting there trying to figure out what to do.

though it is a big fat slow site thanks to fat bloated markup, fat bloated CSS, and fat bloated javascript - but that's par for the course with a turdpress template. That the home page uses 70k of HTML, 43k of CSS, and 173k of javascript to present less than 8k of CDATA and 3 content images is a pretty sure sign something is amiss, since there's nothing there that I'd BOTHER using javascript for (except perhaps a .htc to make a CSS menu work in IE6), there's no good reason for that to be more than 15k of HTML and a equal amount of CSS for the whole site.

    But that's turdpress for you.

Maybe my .htaccess file is just messed up. I did a search on Google for enabling mod_rewrite and put this code into the .htaccess file:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

Does this look anything like what it should look like? lol

It looks like something is seriously slowing down the initial page load - I measured nearly 17 seconds. It looks like DNS is responding fast, so there must be something wrong with the webserver or the code that generates the page.

I'd check your server logs for anything that looks suspicious.

You could try removing the SEO plugin completely and find something else if it's giving you that much trouble.

If it was blazing ultra fast before the plugin and now with the plugin your site is horribly slow (I went to view it and closed it after 3 seconds when nothing came up btw) then it's a pretty safe bet that plugin is a piece of garbage. Did the plugin not give exact instructions on what to edit in your .htaccess file?

A shared hosting not going to help much, you should get a VPS and configure the server to your needs.

    Hello,

Google, the best search engine, wants its users to possibly have the fastest search experience along with getting most relevant results for their search queries. Due to this, the latest buzz urges website owners to reconsider website optimization in terms of page loading speed. This is because, search engine optimization (SEO) also emphasizes on a web page's display speed. SEO companies constantly aim for highly concise and streamlined web pages in order to enable search engines crawlers associate entered keywords with every object added to the webpage.
increasing the page display speed by effective search engine optimization will not only give your website the best look and feel but will also increase its possibility of gaining a higher web ranking. Some of the other benefits of higher website speed are as follows:

    1. Quickly loaded pages increases the conversion rate

    2. Faster websites promote accessibility i.e. they are user friendly

    3. The cost of website maintenance is much lower

Now that you know the benefits of having a higher page loading speed, how do you actually go about it? Well, most SEO experts will usually proceed by performing the following SEO methodologies considered to be the best in order to achieve higher web page speed:

    1. Reduce initial display time of webpage

    2. Resize and optimize images

    3. Upgrade CSS style sheets to the latest standards

    4. Optimize Java scripts

    5. Optimize multimedia content

    Thanks.

Well, it is very good phenomena that your website should take a very small time to load its all pages, look at the scenario that if your website is very good but it takes time to load its all pages then the users can feel frustration to see this so you should use small images and animation so that your website can load in seconds rather than in minutes and fro this purpose, you must hire a good web designing company. :) :)
