Hello DigitalPoint artists... I love the talent on this board and I can't wait to start this new $50 contest! I have run contests here in the past and I've never been disappointed. I can't wait to see what you all come up with. Prizes: $50 for the winner, Plus two $5 Earlybird prizes for the first two SERIOUS entries. --- What I need: I have an ebook that I'm converting to a paperback, printed copy book. I'm self-publishing it through createspace.com. I need someone to create a book cover (front, back and spine) using the CreateSpace cover template. The ebook version is here: Teaching Job book. Title of printed copy: I Want a Teaching Job! Subtitle: Guide to Getting the Teaching Job of Your Dreams Author: Tim Wei --- I'd like the front cover to feature a male cartoon mascot of a teacher in front of a blackboard. It can be similar to the ebook logo, or completely different. It should have the title, subtitle, and the author. Either the title of the subtitle could be written on the chalkboard in bold letters. Unlike the ebook version, I do NOT want the website address on the book cover. Instead of iwantateachingjob.com, just write "I want a Teaching Job" as the main title. I'd like the background to be green, if possible. --- For now, you can just post a book cover image. HOWEVER, the winner will be required to create the actual cover using the psd template (link above). This includes the front cover, a back cover with some words, and the spine. --- Contest rules: - Contest ends on Tuesday, February 16, around 8pm eastern time. - I reserve the right to end the contest early if I see an awesome design I can't live without. - I reserve the right to choose no winner or extend the contest if I don't see what I'm looking for. - All designs should be posted publically in the forum for all to see. - For now, just post a sample image. Winner agrees to create a proper front-back-spine cover according to the template and submit it is psd, pdf, and jpeg form. - All designs must be 100% original. Please do not use clip art from other courses. ---- If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I'll try to provide feedback on all designs posted. Thanks for considering this contest, everyone!! Have fun and be creative! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!!
I'm on this job //Will use your "teacher" @to everyone who has skipped the template - it have to be around 5000x3000px.
Hi.. so this for real book cover.. i still have cartoon character that i'm gona use to your canceled project in past time, is that OK?
Yes, this ones a real book cover. Of course you can use character... feel free to submit as long as it's original.
Great - feel free to use the teacher in current logo if you'd like. Yes, I know the size is huge. I'm not an artist or designer, so I don't know the challenges associated with the large size. Will this be a problem for most people?
I guess it can be problem. For me it wan't really a problem, but the designers works almost everytime with normal sized images (logos etc.) Here is my entry: http://i46.tinypic.com/do5bv4.png Watch it on 100%. (1600x because tinypic resized it) I have 5000x3000~ version passing the template on psd in my computer, so it won't be problem to upload the full version somewhere if you need preview of it. Feedback appreciated. Thanks!
Bodil40 - Very nice start! You've earned the $5 early bird. PM me your paypal. Feeback - Things I like - I like the wavy background, the shades of red and green seem to work well. I do like the idea of using the eBook logo. "Success!" on the back is neat. A few suggestions - I think I'd like the logo to be bigger so it fills up the center of the cover. I'm not a fan f the ABC-123 thing (I know it's on the website, but it looks kind of elementary to me). I'd rather have the book title or subtitle in there (like in the square logos on the website). I did like the red letters on top of the chalkboard in the ebook version (but the web address would need to be changed to the title) - it looks kind of empty above the chalkboard without letters. And I think the spine is upside down. Very good first entry!! Thanks bodil4o!!! Don't forget to send your paypal. .
Track - Wow! This is very nice! Background colors look terrific! Character guy looks good. I like the large chalkboard. It's a very brandable cover. Suggestion: The font isn't that great. Can you maybe make it more cartoon-like? The guy's hair blends into the chalkboard. Would it be possible to adjust the color slightly so you can tell where the hair stops and the chalkboard starts? Can you eliminate the word "author" and just write "Tim Wei." Track - You get the second earlybird prize for $5. Please feel free to send you paypal info. Masjacky - This is my favorite background so far. I love the chalkboard font - it fits with the theme nicely and it looks fun. Suggestion: Title needs the word "a" - "I Want a Teaching Job!" I'd like also like the subtitle "Guide to Getting a Teaching Job" to stand out a little more. Maybe you could stick it on the chalkboard in big letters? Possible put "I Want a Teaching Job!" on top and "Guide to Getting a Teaching Job" on the chalkboard. Also, the guy on the cover is a little squeezed - proportions seem off a bit, but not too much. Thanks to both of you for your submissions!!! My favorite so far: I dunno... I like how Track's logo looks, but I really love masjacky's chalkboard font and background. Even though I don't see exactly the perfect cover, everyone's totally on the right track so far though. .
Track - I like the changes. I like it a lot. No suggestions at this time. Bodil4o - Very good design. I do miss having the character on the front. Even though it's a great design, I prefer the style of Track's at this point. Incomebiz - Yes, of course the contest is still on....until Tuesday. Feel free to enter if you'd like. Thanks everyone. I'm lovin' what I'm seeing so far. Keep the entries coming in.
Here is my revision: http://i49.tinypic.com/30jrwjn.png Here is another idea: http://i50.tinypic.com/dylr43.png And one with glowing board on the cover: http://i46.tinypic.com/2cmu3af.png Maybe I should change the board on the back too? Feedback appreciated!
Thanks for all the new designs everyone. Here's what I'm thinking. As of right now, Track's most recent entry is still my favorite. My wife says it reminds her of the Dummie's series of how-to books, which is not a bad thing. Bodil4o - Your designs are very good. I think you have my favorite chalk font. But I think the green and green/yellow backgrounds look better than the red/green. Masjacky - Sorry, I don't think I can have the large logo spanning from the front cover to the back. I think it needs to be on the right half (front cover) only. Also, it seems odd to have the title written twice. BUT I REALLY love how you polished up the mascot. His skin color lost the greenish tint (love it!) and you gave him a nice web 2.0 shine. Incomebiz - This is a very snazzy design. It's definitely fun and it makes the book look exciting, but I don't think it will work for this particular book. I do want a cartoon image, but I think it's almost too cartoonish. It is a job hunting book, and I don't think people would take it as seriously with your cover. And future teachers would freak out over the backwards letter N. It's a terrific design, but not for this book. Sorry. So far, I'm still leaning towards Track's design. It's fun and cartonish, but still has enough simplicity to be taken seriously as a job-hunting guide. Thanks again everyone... I can tell a lot of thought and work is going into your designs, and I appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing what else pops up between now and Tuesday.
