Question about the "link:" command

    Hi,

checking for backlinks there is a huge difference when I use the link: command.

When I check it with link:www.domain.com I see around 40 backlinks.
When I check it with link: www.domain.com I see 300 backlinks. (with a space between the :_www)

Can somebody explain me why there is this difference, if it is a normal thing and if not, what can I do to fix it.

Sorry if this was discussed before, but I could not find it.

Are you sure that the backlinks being shown with the space are "actually" backlinks? IMO it's the url being mentioned (not a link mostly) on different websites.

As far as I understand it are normal backlinks. Most of them come from the directories where I've added my site.

I checked those links, and I can not find something strange with them (like a link with a nofollow tag or something else..) So for me they seem normal links.

I verified with my site and the difference is quite amazing. Its a relatively new site and I get only 2 backlinks from link:www.mydomain.com but 276 with link www.mydomain.com. Perhaps the nospace version uses a cache or something? A checked about 20 of the links with the space and they were all valid links.

    Hey Eka,

After looking at things more closely I did notice some pages were not actualy links but some were. What that command with the space does is search for the term "link" with the URL "www.mydomain.com" in the same page. What I do find strange is why link: only reveals a few links for my site when I know of literally hundreds of links. Is it a question of aging maybe?

Google only display a limited amount of backlinks to your site. Try Yahoo for a more complete listing. And also, we should use the one without space to check the backlinks.

KC TAN is correct -- Google won't display all of your backlinks; in order to see more backlinks in Google, simply remove the "www" and just type in the domain.

If you haven't used Yahoo's backlink checker, you can do that from here -- "http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/"

For me most of them are normal links. I searched on those pages to find the keyword "link" but I could not find it. So still it is a question for me why there is a big difference. Btw; I see the same difference when I check the BL's of my competing sites. I really don't know if it has to do with aging. I also have hundreds of backlinks and they appear in yahoo and msn.

Just I gained a link from an authority site -pr5 page- and some days later it showed up when I searched BL's with the space command.

it might be just like two keywords search

keyword could be your domain name
    site:_keyword = site keyword = site+ keyword

The corect command is without space.
The same thing for "site:domain.com" and other google commands.
