Is there any difference if I create a link (internal or a backlink) with or without www, like http://mysite.com or http://www.mysite.com ?
By the way, can I just write mysite.com without any prefixes?

http(Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) if you didn't this then it will be automatic add with your URL when you open your site and accoding to me you should use www with your site if you promoting without www, then it is also fine.

If both go to your homepage, make sure you use only one variation and stick with it forever. Matt Cutts has stated that as far as the SERPs go, URLs with and without the www to the same homepage are treated as DIFFERENT pages.

You can choose whatever you want, but as guys above have said, pick one and stick with it.

If your URL is www.mysite.com and you create a backlink pointing to http://mysite.com that won't count.

you can check your site to a checker site (I usually use http://checkpagerank.net/index.php) and see your valid site with www. or without www. and see your last cache head or you can write info:yoursite (especially Google) it will appear your URL, with www. or without www.

If the search engines see 2 pages, does that also mean that both pages have pagerank?

If not, wouldn't it be better to do a javascript redirect? This way both pages get indexed separately.

I switched from using www in url's from the likes of http://www.seo-lion.com to http://seo-lion.com many months ago - seem to remember there was a change that meant it was cool to do that now, don't remember the details though but have gotten used to doing so.

Personal preference for www. I've done a 301 redirect from non-www to www to help with SEO.

It doesn't matter wich one but the best is to stick with 1 of the both and don't mix.
