I hear alot of people are getting banned from Adsense, are the Yahoo guys doing okay? I do believe that once YPN is public, Google is going to lose alot of it's revenue and going to need to do some major advertising and stop banning to get it back
Yes, there have been a lot of people banned from YPN - usually for International or low quality traffic. The last thing yahoo needs is for all the adsense publishers banned for fraud to come to yahoo. That would only further reduce prices. Yahoo needs a LOT more advertisers - they already have too many publishers for their existing advertisers. Their prices are dropping and in some instances, they already pay less than google. Competition is good, but google continues to grow and they still dominate the market. According to their financials, Google pays out 78% (average) of what they get for a click - so while there is some to take less, it's really the advertisers that control what you get paid. I think you are going to see a convergence of pricing in the near future. Right now there are some sectors where yahoo pays more, but I think they will meet with google given enough time - especially when they go International (scheduled for sometime next year). Hopefully they will figure out a way to get more advertisers by then - and that usually means cutting prices. MSN appears to be starting their own program, so that is going to mean more competition.
banned by YPN? try adsense, adbrite... many others. just pick one from here and move on! That is not the end of the world.
actually, speaking of banning, ypn usually does a round of terminations around payday (for various reasons). i was suprised to not see anyone posting about being terminated. I wonder if this may be a sign they are closer to coming out of beta.
According to the people I've talked to at YPN, they are no where close. While there is no firm date, they said they wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't until the second half of next year.
If they wait that long the advertisers will leave , the rates will get very low and no one will want to join.
Advertisers will leave? They already have too many publishers for the advertisers they have. Many of the advertisers are opting out of YPN and only participating in Yahoo Search. Lower rates will bring more advertisers, but likley reduce the number of publishers wanting to participate. Google had a similar problem with their content advertising program (adsense). They went to smart pricing and seperate bids to lower prices and keep the advertisers from opting out. Everything starts with keeping the advertisers happy. If the prices are too high and not converting as well as google or other forms of advertising, they jump ship and then no one is happy. There is always a balance between the advertisers and publishers - but advertisers are who Yahoo is going to listen to first. If prices keep falling, YPN will start letting in new publishers to replace the ones who went back to adsense.
Maybe the anouncement of the MSN ContentAds beta will speed up things ? Well, I don't know but I hope it will be so. AdSense alternatives from major actors like Yahoo or MSN, would be good news. Both for publishers and advertisers.
I haven't been banned, I have an account but I don't really even use it. AdSense is much more profitable for me so I don't even bother with Y!PN on my network of sites.
