Why is this site doing so well in google?

Hi,

I'm thinking about making a lyrics site, so I was checking out some competitors. Then I came across this site, directlyrics (.com).

Why is that site doing so well in google? I checked its indexed pages and only came to about 13000. So probably it will only have about 13000 lyrics on the site. So I'm like, huh? Most (good) lyrics sites have a few hundred thousand lyrics on it!

Also, it has about 94 backlinks from google (see alexa), so I don't think that's much either.

Maybe it's the blog (with news) on the main page that google likes so much?

So does anybody have any clue why this site is doing so well? I see other sites with equal PR, hundreds of backlinks in google and hundred thousands of lyrics and still don't have nearly as much traffic as this site.

I'm really interested to hear your comments on this one.

Good against other sites.

I just wonder why a site with less lyrics and less backlinks is performing better then other sites (with way more lyrics and better backlinks).

 

google doesn't like repeat content so there might not be much difference in the number of pages that a lyrics site has. The blog may be the source of the rank if it has all organically written articles and strong back links to it.

 

Because backlinks are of only a minor consideration - perhaps the site has better SEO (on site) and better rep ( I have not looked) and also may be it is just trusted more because it does not spam and uses better white hat methods than the others...

 

I t must be getting a good traffic through high SERP Rank.

 

Perhaps the domain is so old and it is updated on a regular basis or maybe directlyrics focus on special genres where they have less competitors.

 

There will always be sites that seem like they shouldn't be rated above or below you for various reasons.. unfortunately you'll never be able to get a solid answer because we can't look into what exactly they're doing for SEO (not everything anwaysy)

 

It appears to do well in search because it has been around for longer time on the internet - the domain age factor. There are more than 200 factors or signals in google algorithm for ranking pages and websites so on some of those parameters, it must be ranking well enough.

 

ya if you use white hat SEO techniques so google give you good preference and get result very faster to black hat SEO

I think this lyrics site is a popular site and its visitors are very high quantity. So its PR and Google ranking is very high. Because Google given value to a site according to site traffic.

 

maybe he has better SEO tactics and a easier to navigate website.

 

I have a software that i use to get competitors analyses and what makes them stand ahead of me...you can try it too...but i think the best way to get constantly ahead of others is by working more on on-page optimization.

Adding new content...check your meta tags too... and see if your backlinks are optimized around those keywords you are analyzing.

 

Might have better SEO, and it might have "nicer" HTML code (lots of these lyrics sites use loads of ads which muck up the HTML order), it also may be that it just has lots of high quality traffic for the particular search term.

 

They probably do well for a number of reasons. However, the biggest reason is the quality of their backlinks. You just seem to be counting their backlinks, but the important part of backlinks is how much Pr they have, and how many outbound links are on the page with their link.

For example, here's a strong backlink of theirs.

That page is a PR5, and links out to only a small handful of external sites, making this a *very* powerful backlink for them. Looking through their backlinks, the have some other very strong backlinks as well.

There's no secret. On page optimization can only take you so far, and there's only so many things you can do. In competitive SERPs, the real difference is the quality of the backlinks.

 

It really depends on cleaner and simpler html code. I had website aloe.co.nr and it had pr2 because it had clean and nice html code as it was given by moreniche guys and meant to sell product. I have made gingle.co.cc from scratch and it doesn't have such a good html code so it has pr0 though having nice alexa.

 

Biggest effect is on design and simplicity of your website.

there are many factors for the SERP, and again google doen't show all the backlinks the site has, like angela backlinks for instant

 

did anyone here actually google it? the site in question isnt in the first 5 pages of google for "lyrics"
