Below is an article that I wrote on how to successfully launch a marketing campaign. This article describes the basics of developing a marketing plan, creating a marketing budget, and executing your plan.

    1. Write a Comprehensive Marketing Plan
Developing a marketing plan is imperative for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Marketing plans are road maps to success and will help you reach your long-term goals. A marketing plan will also provide you with guidance and direction. It will keep you organized and focused.

During the planning process, you need to identify who your target market (potential customers) is and how your marketing message will reach them. For example, will you be using paid search advertising, e-mail marketing, and/or search engine optimization to attract potential customers?
Your marketing plan should also contain a section for competition analysis. Thoroughly analyzing your top competitors is an essential part of long-term planning. Identify your competitors' weaknesses and then capitalize on them.

Finally, it is important to find out how much financial capital (seed money) you will need to execute your marketing plan. How much will you spend on paid search advertising and e-mail marketing? How much money will you need to hire a Web designer and SEO consultant to build your search friendly Web site? These are all questions that you need to ask yourself during the planning process and before you start a business.

    2. Establish a Marketing Budget
Be sure to establish a marketing budget. Without a marketing budget, it will be difficult to surpass your competition and gain market share. You need a marketing budget (adequate funds) to cover the expenses associated with paid search advertising, e-mail marketing, search engine optimization,
and even social media marketing. Moreover, you should budget for unexpected (miscellaneous) expenditures associated with implementing your marketing strategies.

    3. Implement, Implement, and Implement
Once you have your marketing plan and marketing budget, you will be ready to successfully launch your marketing campaign for your company. Implement your plan and follow each step outlined in your marketing plan. Modify your plan when needed or when necessary.

You have good points which I have summarized as below - first establish a marketing plan, establish marketing budget, establish the items which will need to be carried out, and then implement the things in the marketing plan. Would you happen to have a sample marketing plan? Or someone else in this thread happen to have a pre-made marketing plan please post here..?

you mean a product launch or what? If for marketing launch, well probably one needs to think all other contingency or plans that may leads to the initial project failures. I guess

This is definitely applicable to all things across the IM world - CL, SEO, PPC, etc. I've found that thorough planning beforehand = less headache, less stress, less time wasted, and more profit!
