My site is ranked #1 for a term, BUT...

This is odd, and I don't know if it is a great SERP change to come, or google caffeine at work.

Currently my SERPS for a keyphrase fluctuate between 5 and 10, and I have NEVER been above position #5. Today when I search for that term, my site is at position #1 when I search in an IE browser with only one tab. When I search under another tab of a browser window I have had opened since early this morning, I get my standard #10 position. I've had friends in other locations test this, and none of them see the #1 position. My traffic today definitely shows that my term IS NOT showing a #1 position anywhere. Traffic is quite low today so far.

So my two thoughts of why this is happening.

    1) Most likely I want to guess the caffeine update is rolling out. I have read that google will be feeding pages to you that you like to frewuent often, if they match your search. Since I work on that page/site daily and it is google bookmarked, my guess this is why itis being fed to me at #1 only.

    2) This is the one I hope is true, but I don't know how to confirm. This is a precursor to my latest serp update!!!

How can I determine what the scoop is here?

    Update:

My understanding of google Caffeine is that...

    1) the return results are much larger

    and

    2) Caffeine speed is much faster.

If this is true, it can rule out a caffeine showing for my #1. Both #1 and #10 searches have results of 22,300,000, and the #1 search loads slower than the #10 browser window (.26 vs .33)

If nobody else can see it, then it could be "Web History"

Look at the top right of a search results page, click "web history" and then click "Disable customizations based on search activity."

    Google is customizing your results.

Not sure about this, it doesn't make much sense. Might be worth trying it again tomorrow to see if it balances out. I know that SERPS listing change very frequently to reflect the hard work by webmasters in adding new content and adding new backlinks.

First of all check if you were logged with your gmail account first because if your were logged and you clicked on your site a couple of time as long as you are logged Google will rank you higher. Secondly if your friends that are searching for the terms are pretty far from your location then the results will also differ. Be sure to logged out from your gmail account before doing a search because your results will be altered...

Don't feel bad. This is happening to hundreds of thousands of webmasters
everyday and to millions of less savvy surfers.

This is Google trickery. They modify your serps based on your clicks and they
do this without your awareness or approval.

How does this help them? It brings your clicked sites to the top of your
SERPs, thereby giving you the illusion that THEY have produced exactly
    what you are looking for.

They are no longer ranking the sites, they are manipulating the SERPs.

Google is more blackhat than most ever realize.

They will trick you and stab you in the back and laugh all the way
to the bank. That's why i love them. LOL

It might be google's customized search results based on your web history. Clear your cache or there is an option you can opt out from this property.
