I require something for the absolute simplest sites where the client might like to change pricing or a contact number or something - Tree Lopping, for example. Building that in Wordpress and teaching the client would not even be worth it - it's a tiny job. Anything bigger than this though, yes, I use Wordpress. I was impressed with MODx too - I'm sure I'll have a need for it at some point. Thanks again for your helpful recommendations!
Just did! This is great. Something I'd consider paying for if Orbis doesn't work out. I like the fact that Orbis is downloadable – I'm going to add some fields for meta, etc, though I can't see where SimpleCMS allows that. It's great otherwise though. Thanks again.
definitely wordPress, to save time, write a custom manual which you can use everytime? commercial templates may also have some advantages if you can find the right 'fit' for the project requirements.
I used joomla more before but now I more prefer wordpress. Easy and simple to instal and configure. And it is more secure.
I can understand someone getting a little confused by Wordpress. My mother (bless her heart) gets confused with email software and web browsers, so it's not unimaginable that someone used to a nothing more complex than a word processor would get a little lost with Wordpress (non drag-and-drop stuff inside a browser is just adding a layer of complexity that some people would have a hard time getting past).
have you tried joomla? I think this is a great and simple CMS you can try! recommended CMS with many of feature !
Yeah, it's a pretty sweet powerful flexible CMS. Not many people seem to know too much about it but it's one of those CMSs that you can do amazing things with
I would like to suggest the AJ Article directory script, which can be easy to handle and manage article contents. www.ajsquare.com/products/article/index.php
I will prefer you to go for Wordpress. Fairly simple and very easy. Also there is a room for expanding your website in future.
Thanks for recommending another CMS instead of just questioning why I wouldn't just use Wordpress like almost everyone else did.
For big business websites, I will say Joomla, Drupal or Xoops. For simple but professional websites, Wordpress is the best.
Whatever someone says in some other forum - Wordpress is skinnable, manages your content, has plugins/modules. In short: a SYSTEM that can be thrown up to MANAGE the CONTENT of a site in less than an hour. Maybe it misses something tech-specific, but this thread certainly wasn't about why Wordpress IS or ISN'T a CMS. And really, who cares anyway?
The same people who make your websites for you... If you do not care about details, why should they ? By the way, the guy making the post has worked with Joomla since it was Mambo... quite a few years. He has loads of experience. Much moreso than I with only two years worth. How about yourself ?
Who invited the stickler? I make my own websites and certainly do consider Wordpress a CMS. posted here to look for a simple CMS, not to argue about what a CMS is and whether Wordpress is a CMS. Pointless? One Extra Pixel, Smashing Magazine and Noupe certainly consider Wordpress a CMS. Anyway, let's move on. Thanks for your recommendations - I've tried, and was impressed with, Orbis - though the editor has issues in IE7 which isn't going to help me. I'm now looking further into CMS made simple and ModX. Thanks again to the useful commenters.
