What do you think is the best way to be on top of Google? Would you recommend commenting on nofollow blog that is within your niche or those dofollow blogs but is not within your niche?
Google ignores nofollows so the only point of placing your link there is if it will increase your traffic (not spamming). The best way to get to the top of google is make sure you have good content and lots of it which google can happily read and isn't copied (else it will be placed below the original source). Make sure all important pages aren't deeper than 3 clicks from the homepage. Get good keywords that people would type but aren't already so popular with the bigger sites. Update your site continuously with new content. Google basically loves finding new stuff, it will also following traffic (so long not a nofollow link). Google loves links from good sites to your sites within a lot of text mostly. If the page already contains a lot of links or a huge list, it loses value. If people search for the keyword(s) and clicks on your site in google, google will follow and slowly push your site up the list. If someone is logined to google they can also list the sites order, cross off spam site they don't like and push up sites they they do like. This will slowly push your site up or down too if done a lot. Use Google WebMaster and Analytics, see what google sees and ensure no broken links or problems. Overall you can't really control google, it's the traffic and people that visit your site that control it.
Keywords are really your best bet... Write tons of unique and useful articles, fill them with keywords and you'll be set.
One trick ponys don't work. You need content people want to read, you need to keep it fresh, you need quality incoming links. In short Google rewards value. Unfortunately most Adsense People are only looking at how to make a quick buck. They are not really businesses, and they can offer little real value. The winners in Adsense focus on creating value then integrating the ads into the value they create. This is not an easy business and it is not getting easier. It's work. And you need to create your own blueprint and keep consistently working and testing. There are those few who hit on the big idea, are on the right place at the right time, etc. But it's not the norm. The Average Webmaster makes about $50 a month from Adsense. Just read these forums and you'll see all the "how can I make more" pleas. It's always about the visitor!
Actually the best way starts from your research. Find something that is not competitive and you will land yourself high up in search rankings =)
Both. Having a mixture of those two will make Google think that the link building is more natural rather than sticking only to dofollow links.
regularly update your site and link to quality sites. Make sure your site is reachable by google spiders.
It depends so much on what you're trying to get to the top of. For a small niche I promote hard, I can get to the top in the matter of minuets on some keywords...Some I'll never see the 4th page because the sites ahead of me are locked in pretty solid..it just depends. For bigger and more popular searches, it can be a long battle. You're not getting to the first page of 'iphone' in a hurry-so in that case I'd try more longer tail keywords that give you the same results. That's the key to getting to the top of a popular niche if your just starting out.
As mentioned it is a mixed bag and you should not rely on one method alone but a combination of all of the suggestions. Building authority is key to getting ranked in some of the top niches. One way to do this is to become an authority on many of your sub niches and long tail phrases first. This helps to boost your overall authority for the general niche. So capturing authority for blue widgets, red widgets, high dollar widgets, etc.. helps build your overall authority for "widgets". Not to mention you are now generating income from the long tail while fighting the lengthy battle for control of the top keywords
Eventhough it's a nofollow you can get targeted traffic from those no follow blogs. So do work on both.
link building the is the best way to top google rankings. First you should wisely choose your keywords and work extensively in getting links. Basically I trust article submissions foruom posting blog comments profile links

The credibility and trust of users on your site will keep you on tops of Google Thanks
My backlinks are not showing up under google and bing when I checked my links with a free link tool. Although they did show up under yahoo and ask ( more under Yahoo). What could be the reason for this or do you just think it is the free link tool I used?
SEO helps! It is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website on search engines via organic or natural search results for targeted keywords. Make sure to do On-Page Optimization first then next is the Off-Page Optimization.
