Hi, my website has about 500 unique users daily and 3000 pageviews. According to google Analytics: 60% direct traffic, 28% reffering from other sites and 13% search traffic. 40% Users come from USA, 30% from Europe and 30% others. Average visiting time is about 10 minutes. Adsense CTR is near 1 - 2 %. It is a LIVE tv website and keywords are related to tv and radio and streaming and so on. But my clicks are as low as 0.1 - 0.4 cents. Website has a pr 2 and Alexa Rank of 190000. I don't think that my keywords are low paying keyword by adsense. Don't you think that this website deserves heigher click pricing? I am very confused what to do. Thanks
I don't think that the niche is low paying, because my competirors earn much more. And tv related keyword are not low paying IMHO.
There's your problem, most of your visitors are direct traffic. It's really hard to explain how Adsense determine the payout you'll get, but according to some tests I done on my own sites, Adsense tend to give you a higher CPC if they know your visitors search for a term (organic traffic) and found your site from the SERP. Google tracks how each visitor gets to your site and see it that a more targeted visitors is someone who is searching for any given term and the result of finding your site listed in the 1st page of the SERP. Basically Google is looking out for their Advertiser, what matters to them are traffic that will click and convert for them their Advertiser *Note: this is what I notice after some testes I've done and not actually how Adsense might work (but who knows, I feel I'm right )
Thank you very much. It is the best answer I have ever seen here. I do agree with you, but it is very unfair from google's site, cause direct traffic means the website is good and users come again and again.
The info I was looking for months is just this. Thanks for your ideas. As I think now, no doubt for earning much more from SERP-coming visitor's click. On the other hand, it is clear-headed.
No need to see the site to give an advice. dencha, three post above, has very well explained, without seeing my site.
You have a better chance of generating a click from a "first-time" visitor (unique visit) verses a returning visitor. Returning visitor already seen the ads on your site and they'll most likely not click, but unique visitors will hit your site...look around for a bit then notice an ad and click (or they probably click an ad once they arrive to your site)
That's normal for your kind of site. There isn't enough text for Google to really know what your pages are about. Then they just put up generic ads.
Maybe you are right, but apparently google knows which ads to deliver to my site, because 90% of ads are tv and radio based.
there are several possible reason here..lack of text, are his pages SEO urls, Adsense pages can be targeted realy well with just the URL. The direct vs organic. How many ads on a page.....I've seen that just 1 banner vs 3 pays out better. Also you can try to figure out which advertisers have a higher payout and filter domains with a lower payout....
Very general question, and you will receive very general answer. Try to get different layout and colors, fonts for ads. If you want to give deep consulting PM me the url and I would be happy to do that for free.
I think you are right, especially the second and latter one could be the problem. Apparently, Google doesn't like too many Ads on a page, especially competitors ads.
Change google adwords with something else, why dont you become affiliate for some kind of sales related to tv/music. I think it may work better for you. People are bored from google adwords and rarely click.
