I think it is always worth it, but you need to make sure that you will be able to capture some statistics after giving away all the flyers, my point is that you need statistics to know if the traffic has increased and the effectiveness of the flyers.

    Good luck :)

Buy a couple of thousand Post-It notes, and hire a group of students to write your URL on all of them and plaster them all over town. That should do the trick, and it probably won't cost all that much. :p

It'll certainly grab people's attention when they wake up in the morning and see yellow trees everywhere!

I've thought about doing offline promotion as well, but haven't done it yet. I think you have to look at
    A) How much $ do you make per unique visitor
    B) How many visitors per flyer
    C) How much does it cost per flyer

    if A x B > C then it would be worth doing

It's a lot of work, you'll get a low percentage of people coming to your site, and then even lower to convert. Plus, you cannot track if it works. Your best focusing that time with online efforts, or an offline AD somewhere. Flyers personally annoy me. My personal opinion tho ...

I am doing buissness card size flyers and handing them out at trade shows and things like that which are specific to my target audience. I am also offering some free incentives on the card.

The key here is that the flyers have to be very highly targeted towards your demographic...

The amount of time between when a person reads the flyer and then gets to a computer terminal is too great. Your money would be better spent on PPC.

If you are wanting to advertise your site, I think getting some cheap or free business cards from someone like Vista Print might be a good idea. You can pass them out to everyone. They might be more likely to carry those home in a pocket.

I recently ordered some free business cards from Vista Print and I like them. I haven't done anything with them yet though. :) I'm going to try them out on family members this weekend when I see several of them. ;)

I think it's pretty easy to get stats from offilne traffic.

Say you pass out flyers. Make the URL on the flyer something like domain.com/1 (Replace "1" with anything you like) And configure that page to re-direct to your main page. Use your web tracker to see how many hits come from domain.com/1.

It could be even easier if they have to become members. You could have a drop down box in the form asking them how they found the site...Search Engine, Forum, a link from another site, flyer, whatever.

I've been thinking about doing it at my uni, or maybe putting an ad in the newsletter thing... Could be a good idea I think, but hey, I'm just the new guy :D
