Hi ive been trying to find a solution to this. Ive have lost the original cd for the drivers in my laptop, been to the manufacturers website but it seems they havent updated the driver for this. I am using model dw-u54a drive. i really would appreciate it if somebody can help.
are you sure that your drive can read DVDs? if so every major manufacturer will have the drivers ready to download on their website. what is the model No. and manufacturer name?
generic drivers that windows supplies is perfectly fine for a cd/dvd drive.there is no need to install the manufacture drivers,it's not going to make the drive better or fix something. if there is a know issue, they can offer something to flash the drive. are you saying that your drive can read cd's,but not dvd's? there are two lasers in the drive, one for cd and one for dvd.if the dvd laser fails and then it won't read dvd's.time to buy a new drive.
Thanks for this. Ive been trying to find a fix to this for a long time. I didnt know that a dvd drive has two lasers. Buying a new one seems nice.
Try to do a firmaware upgrade. No need to buy another one, I have the same problem and I solve it by uninstalling Nero and switch to Ashampoo Burning Studio
Have you tried some different Types of DVD's, does it recognise a Blank DVD and allow you to burn file's or does it just spin up and try to continuously read the disk? Also I tried to lookup your drive via the Model Number and found it seems to be made by Sony, I can't believe that they do not provide driver's any-more, however as already stated the Basic Driver's supplied with Windows will work fine.
Maybe its only a CD-ROMODrive, DVD-ROM drive is also different. There are also a lot of types for cd and dvd drives
