The Secret Use of PR in my opinion.

    Hello Everyone.
I have an opinion about the use of the PR.
(sorry in advanced about my English - I don't have time to correct grammer mistakes :) )

So first, its true - Site's PR doesn't reflect anything almost about its SERP or traffic.
So what it is reflect ? it do reflect the value the site has in the point of view of Google. value is combined from many factors that eventually represent the strength/reputation/respect the site has !
factors are known and unknown to all, one major known factor is backlinks.

The Secret Use of PR - here is the real power of PR and how PR found expression:
PR influence SERP of other sites in the long-term.
Yes, the PR of site #1 will affect the SERP of site #2 when site #2 is connected to site #1 (the most common way is outbound link from site #1).
The better site #1's PR and value the greater will be its influence on site #2 SERP in the long term.
Site #2's SERP is ofcourse affected by many other factors but the % of influence in the long-term for connections from PR and valued sites is very big.

In conclusion, the PR of your site not giving you traffic or SERP but can tell you a little how Google respect your site in their point of view, its main use is as a tool of Google to value other sites (with SERP as well in the long-term) while crawling the web.
Its also an important SEO tool for the long-term that can affect other sites SERP and PR.

    ---

This is what I have in mind about my experience with PR.
    Hope you find it interesting,
    Please reply.
    - Tom

... I finished building my website a few weeks ago and it already has a PR of 2 :) there are hardly any inward links to it as of yet.
I heard that layout and ease of navigation (internal links) within the website have an effect on PR but i dont know if that is true or not. does anyone here know?

Infact PR has very little affect on serps, BUT in around about way it does.

Think about it in a logical way, PR is given to sites for having higher PR backlinks from sites that have more authority than the you are linking to, In tern it passes Authority ( respect ) to the site it links to . PR its self doesnt boost your serps but instead its amount of authority that does.

This is the reason why if you buy a PR6 link from a directory that has just been set up on a dropped domain wont do you any favours, however if you manage to get a backlink from a long term PR6 which has been a PR6 for a long period of time ( and is related to your site ) you will receive a boost in authority.

Its been known for as long as i can remember that the longer your links are on a site the more it will benefit you , who ever thinks that SEO is something you can do in a month or even two and still expect these results to be there in a years time is kidding them selves and they need to wake up.

It's about time everyone forgot about PR and actually based their link building efforts the proper old fashioned way by studying backlinks among other things. How do you think it was done before that little green bar was around

PR in my eye's has just opened up a business for cheap and tacky link builders that base their sale pages on "ill get you 5 PR6 links , 4 PR4 links " etc etc.

Im feeling like im ranting in to thin air now as i know most people wont read this and will still follow the messes of idiots that still believe that dropped domains will give them some magical PR after 1 month.

Sorry about the grammar, im now off to bed after a long weekend so im rushing this a little and may edit it tomorrow to correct my ramblings.

    Good night all

I don't think I agree with a lot of it. It makes sense for Google to track a ranking system of pages, it helps with SERPS and checking if websites with certain content are legitimate or not.

On the Google toolbar, hover over the PR indicator. The tool-tip says "PageRank is Google's view of the importance of this site."

It is really nothing more or less than that. . .

Lets say I had a site selling "Polkadot Widgets" number 1 on Google yet had Zero backlinks and no PR and hopefully none ever - Would that mean my site selling polkadot widgets was less improrant to Google, what with it being position 1 for the search term then tbtb?

Surely you can see the advertising ploy behind all this PR thing can't you?

I'm not exactly sure that you're trying to get at here.

Want to clarify it a bit more???
