I shouldn`t look at number of backlinks but on quality of backling. Only one link from site with good reputation, high pagerank is more valued then 1000 links from low-quality sites...

Concentrate on trying to find anchor text backlinks from high PR sites/blogs that have relevance to your keyword/subject plus providing good content on your site.

Try to provide excellent content/services in your site: this will help your site to attract some natural backlinks.

Hi, can you help me understand how you know this? I have been hearing nothing but about the importance of backlinks and spend a lot of time doing it. I'm sure it's important still, but you seem to be saying that Google has changed something and is now looking at content quality... but how do they determine quality, or do you mean relevance (as in keyword density and LSI analysis, etc)?

Would love to know more insight as this game is all about the best way to spend your time. If I have a half hour to spend on a campaign, should i spend it finding high PR backlinks or writing another relevant article to submit to one place?

    thanks

You likely have more than 2 as Google does not show all to average viewer. Go to webmaster tools (or set up and account) and you should seem more backlinks to your site.

Google is stricter than Bing and Yahoo when it comes to valuing links pointing to your site. One of the most important factors is the content of the page were your link has been placed. If it is related to your website, then Google will count it as a link.

Another method they use is the PR of the page were you placed your link

Have you tried checking your links on google webmaster tool or any link checker tool? Google doesn't show all your site links.

How are you looking for these backlinks in Google? You need to be registered in WebMaster Tools, and give it a few weeks to update. Google don't show publicly what backlinks they know about. If you've got thousands in yahoo and bing then it's extremely unlikely that Google isn't counting a similar number, you're just using the wrong method to find out.

quality of backlinks matter rather than the quantity. Google now prefers good content..

I think (although I might be wrong with this) that Yahoo's crawlers count no-follow links toward your rank, while google's crawlers don't. I'm pretty sure I heard this somewhere. I don't use Yahoo much so you'll have to check on this.

Google has a different algorithm that doesn't count duplicate content.
