How is my site ranking? Not upset, but...

It's weird, I'm on page 1 on Google, position 4.

There are no backlinks to the page, zero.

The keyword density isn't above 1% for anything.

Meta tags have the keyword in it, so does the Title tag, but that's about it.

The competition for the keyword is 1.8 million.

    Just seems REALLY weird!

    that depends upon the keyword/phrase.
If no one else is intentionally targeting that phrase then Google has to show something.

Plus Google does do some silly things sometimes.
For awhile I was ranked on Google page 1 placement 4 for the word "skate"
I have no clue why as I never could find the use of that term on the page that was ranked for this.
I got some traffic from it but never any sales ;)

Can you put a link of your site so that we can check it out because it may cause of what they called as "google dance" wherein the SERP ranking of those sites are not that accurate for the mean time, those sites who are on the first page normally tend to go down and while those sites that is ranked not that high tend to go up of the rank. Google dance works in that kind of process.

Having large amounts of backlinks to your domain, can sometimes cause other pages to rank higher, in a project I'm running, I've only built backlinks to the domain, not any of the pages, yet the pages are ranking higher then the domain, despite the domain URL being promoted, not the page URL. It's just part about how Google works really.

Are you looking at this from your own computer? You could be seeing personalised results. Use a third party tool, or just ask a few other people to check - other people may not be seeing what you are - are you getting the traffic you would expect from that position?

Google has two databases. One for its tools that list backlinks, etc. One for its actual search engine. These are not always the same. In general their search engine database has many more backlinks that are not listed in the web tools database. Anyway, you might have some backlinks that aren't actually being displayed when you check the backlinks because they are in one database and not the other.

Amazing.......its really wonderful to know that you are on page 1 of Google. According to me,backlinks, keyword density, meta tags are very important for SEO purpose. No doubt, these are important but after reading your article, I am quite surprised.
