my own marktplaats or ebay

    hi,

i'm planning to begin with a commerce website. but I don't want to sell anything, (i don't have anything to sell). what I want is that visitors can make an account (if they want to sell something, or make a bid). but they are free to visit the website and take a look at the products that other members have posted.

so, I don't sell anything, but members can post a product or a bike or a couch. I don't care what, anything, it will be like a marketplace.

    a dutch example is marktplaats.nl
I think ebay.com is the same.

but this is what it will be like. i have taken a look at magneto and some other, however I don't want it to have a button (that says: "add to cart"). marktplaats.nl doesn't have that, and I think ebay.com also doesn't.

the visitors will be able to enter text, and their telephone number. etc.

but no button " add to cart", is magneto able to do this? or another product I can use. (i want a product that can be customized, and if its possible for free)

(also visitors don't have to make an account, if they want to buy something.)

    thank you so much.

Ebay are a online auction. but your site is more in to a classified site. you can customize magento or oscommerce. but they are good if you are going to sell anything. but I suggest you to go for a classified script. it will suit for your need. If you need more help shot me a PM

is magneto free, or do I have to pay?

I don't have a shop or something. I want to make a marketplace. lets say, some one wants to sell his car. he will come to my site, make an account, and insert his "article"/"advertisement" and when people see his advert. than they can call him and buy it. or by paypal paying. so there is no need for "add this to cart". because I'm not selling. I just have the website.

and ofcourse lets say two people want to buy the car. then they can bid. and if one bids more than the seller can contact the account of the buyer with the highest bid.

magneto looks good, but oscommerce looks a bit plain. there is not much. maybe there are themes for it. but it's not so pretty.

    thank you

but oscommerce is not a auctioning system. if you can find a auction script it will fit to you..

WOW, this looks so cool. thank you so much.

do you think I will be able to add a small rectangel (picture) to the ads ' sells'
on the homepage, you can scroll down a bit, and you see some examples of sales. do you think i will be able to add a thumbnail picture to it.

but, this thing looks really good. I don't want it to be a only bid aution site. it's just a feature that users will have (bidding).

but thank you ethan8, it looks really good.

    ok, sorry

let me change this, I did some research.
and I think my site is more a classified site. (didn't know what a classified site was, I still don't know really, but I have a idea what it is, found some examples.)

are there great classifed scripts you can recommend, wich are proffessional.
the php bid pro looks awesome, but it's too much bidding. I want to have bidding as a feature. so the site will be a marketplace, where users insert an advertisement of what they want to sell. exactly like ebay.com and marktplaat.com

I think amazon is the same, don't know for sure.

    thank you

have just finished building a website that does what you talk about except it is only for downloadable products. you can check it out in my sig. The script can be configured to sell phisical products as well as digital ones if you wish. I used drupal to do this. If you dont know how to use drupal and would like me to build you a site I will do so for a fee. PM me if you want me to work for you.

I know i'm new in here, but if you interested, i can make you the web auction script, or sc. networking with web auction script just like ebay ready, since you want no add to cart., isnt it?
