No one, Theist or Atheist can scientifically claim God does or does not exist. The very nature and attributes of God can't be proven or disproved with certainty. Science, however, suggests that the chances of a supernatural God existing who listens to billions of prayers and watches over billions of people and created the universe in 6 days (you would think an all powerful God wouldn't need 6 whole days to create anything)...is HIGHLY improbable. The National Academy of Sciences says that over 90% of scientists are non-Theists. Personally, I think God was made-up by SMART people..to scare GULLIBLE people..into being MORAL and GENEROUS people. Think about it.
God is a fabrication of the human mind to enable people to deal with the concept of death which is why the notion of an afterlife is universal across humanity. A human's only purpose on this planet - like all living things - is to reproduce. Religion, nationalism, capitalism, socialism - they all serve as a means to that end.
Most. Elementary. Answer. Ever. Get out of your perspectives and isms, realize you do NOT have a known physical purpose or right to reproduce, and you may be afraid of death but i certainly am not nor are my pets as they have no concept of it. We have no concept of death either, but like to think we do. The only thing you cannot do is waste energy, that's a sin. Nationalism is a controlled effort to make a false organic mental aggregate, think of states as Mental States, the reason why we have militaristic Germans, libertarian French, independent Italians, all balancing each other out with their stereotypes. It's much more orchestrated than your view of existence that seems to rely too much on randomness...As if any political revolution was truly an uprising from the bottom up... So much to learn, stop reading philosophies and take a stroll in a garden if you have the chance (currently snowing where i am :\). You'll learn a lot more and see things much differently.
true, but only a small part of the truth. God is a fabrication of the human mind which is perfect: a one-stop-shop solution for a lot of fears, uncertainties, social needs, and so on. Not just in order to deal with the concept of death. It is a package which encompass lots lots of other stuff - and this is why it remains alive although the thinking elite of humanity of present day are united in the understanding that god does not exist.
Too right, there are just too many of these dam religious people who start charities, care for the homeless, raise money for the poor, spend time on the streets on Saturday nights as street pastors helping kids who are drunk and ill, raise money for shelters for the homeless, run hospices for people dying, raise money to dig wells for those in countries who have no drinking water, run soup kitchens, visit prisoners . Let's get rid of all this god religion obviously no good comes out of it, they are just deluded.
Religion isn't required to do any of that. If you do require religion to do it i don't see how you can then claim it's anything even remotely compassionate. Not a single good deed requires a religious belief. But on the other hand, many atrocities do.
It's just a belief that there is someone superior and higher than all living beings. Just to remind us that no one or nothing is at the pinnacle
Very true, but history shows that religion drove many more to do these things than those without religion. So you don't need it, but usually you find it. God may or may not exist but belief in a supreme loving being gives people the desire to act in a loving way. But many atrocities don't require a belief in God or religion. Don't notice a religious belief driving Sadam, don't notice a religious belief driving Hitler, don't notice a religious belief driving George Bush to bomb innocent people in Iraq. Do notice terrorist bombers in the IRA who claimed some religion but had none and murdered hundreds of innocent victims. Yes many who claimed religion and many who did not have done some awful things, but dig deep enough where there is good and many more are founded in a religious belief.
How exactly did "history show that religion drove many more to do these things than those without religion"?
He exists, He is always going to be there and He will never leave you nor forsake you. What you're doing now is something but a figment of your imagination when you leave this hell whole that is just one step to hell. For others this is one step to Heaven if they follow the right path and do things the right way with no issues in front of them. Oh and by the way, you'll hear the trumpets from the Heavens and 7 Angels will make their way down one at a time and then you know....He is coming and your fear better be the fear of God because He made you and wants nothing but the best for you. Not to freak anyone who is not a christian, but could you HONESTLY imagine an ETERNITY in hell with satan? Wow...the pain and suffering you will go through is beyond what your mind or body could ever imagine.... You really should reconsider your life if you have read this...
I love how you tell us god will never forsake us just before telling us how he is going to send us hell and how he will inflict pain and suffering on us. Of course, your conclusion is not based on there being a god but the specific god of your particular religion which you believe as a result of geography and tradition. What makes me laugh is how you ignore identicle threats from other religions and then expect us to believe your threats. If you can understand why you have rejected all of the other thousands of religions you might be able to grasp why we reject yours, even with it's empty threats of torture. @anonymously I never said religion was required to commit attrocities. I said it provides a very good excuse, and ontop of that not a single good deed requires it. If you can name me one good action which requires a religious belief you might have a point. I don't suppose you need me to name an attrocity which wouldn't have happened without religion do you?
Try abolition of slavery, (and don't tell me Christians started slavery) try people who started homes for street children in UK, try people like Albert Schweitzer, Gladys Aylward, try those who founded the hospice movement. Check the charities listings and see how many are religious motivated.
Yeah. It exists according to Islam. It was a Jin but Allah turned it into a Devil for not obeying His command. uhmm... even I can prove that He exists. There is no God but Allah. You need to see a doc.
Just curious why you believe in God but refer to yourself as a Christian - who's guidance do you live by?
Yes it means that without it something would not have happened. The things I quote and the people mentioned found their motivation, energy and their understanding from their religion. Without it the people and those activities would not have happened so it was required. Do you know what required means?
