For SEO, the domain extension does not matter, but .com is the most widely used tld so, I would suggest go for .com as most of the users prefer .com
SEO wise .com comes first and .net comes at second according to google guideline.... But this criteria varies with need. If personal site to develop then better to use .me. If selling any regional or local product then better to use .us, .de or other region specific domain.
Both are equal in the eyes of Google as others have pointed out. But in the eyes of consumers and other webmasters, .com sites are seen as more legitimate than .net sites. For this reason, a .com site will get more click throughs in the SERPs than the exact same domain name with a .net TLD. Also, .com domains tend to get more natural links than their .net equivalent.
also 9 times out of 10 if you type domain-key-word (or domainkeyword) into the browser and hit CTRL and enter you end up at the .com
I believe its .com domains. There are seo reasons and browser reasons. As we know many browsers including mozilla loads .com extensions if we give just the word alone or pressing ctrl key.
It does not matter at all as long as you do a good SEO optimization but its a good thing that you must use the .net for those sites that is been used for networking and those .com for those commercial sites.
Definitely .com everyone says it ranks the same, but from my experience .com ranked better using the same resources.
