I read this interesting article about an Australian girl who independently sold 240,000 of her records through her web site via digital download.

Any way check out her site and tell me what you think. How would she get traffic?

I wrote a blog about it and dugg it.

Please digg this story if you like it... Thanks!

Impressive. She either had an excellent marketing plan, a huge 'underground' following or both...for that many sales.

i know alexa ranking isnt everything but i find it hard for someone to sell 240,000 copies through a website and have an alexa rating of 3,800,000

sorry but i don't buy it..

What source did this info come from?

I have to say the story is probably misleading. The site's alexa ranking is 3,845,355. I know alexa isn't that accurate, but still makes me hard to believe the story.

this is a tried and tested marketing technique.

you make an extraordinary (often false) claim about how successful you are so that others will blog it/digg it and drive traffic to the site.

Yup, have to agree with everyone on this thread. You cannot get that much sales with that small amount of traffic. It is simply BS.

    Hi there,

I find this rather hard to believe, not saying the person who created this thread is lying although almost a quarter of a million on a site like that is unbelievable. Especially at 99c as well, that is what mainstream music is being sold at by digital download.

I agree with the person that said people would of just made this false claim so that it drives traffic to the website.

    Regards,
    Kieran Taylor.

Well her site is Australian maybe that has something to do with the low alexa ranking?

I read the story in a prominent Australian news paper. She has started her own music label which has a whole bunch of artists who have signed.

    Martian Music

I never met anyone in Australia or New Zealand who uses Alexa... so Alexa means squat here for the average site.

The article I read appeared in the Australian Financial Review which is Australia's version of the Wall Street Journal.

I'm amazed not more artists take the promo online and rely less on record companies to do it for them.
