Do you use Craigslist?

Do you use Craigslist to promote your site? Is it worth your time to post? It seems like I get only a few clicks from my posts. Your experience?

I do not use Craigslist to drive traffic to a site like I would with other big sites (Facebook, Digg, Ezinearticles, etc) but I do use it when I am working with a retailer or pushing an affiliate product for someone.

As a quick example, I worked with a Jewelry Store local in my area a few months back and showed the owner how to effectively sell through Craigslist, using Craigslist to sell individual products/items as opposed to just linking the Jewelry Store's website. By making sales directly on Craigslist, as opposed to just linking to the website and expecting Craigslist users to click the link and then purchase on the website, the results were much better. As with any site you use, it helps alot to get an understanding of how the users there operate and what they expect.

Craigslist can be an amazing place for pushing something you want to sell because you can geographically target effectively and a lot of people come to Craigslist with their wallets already halfway out. As far as just trying to get web traffic from posting links on it, I think your efforts could be better spent on sites other than Craigslist.

No, I went there, there is too much crap to wade through to find the good stuff.

That was about 2 years ago.

I don't drive traffic through Craigslist, but the non-US versions of Craigslist can be a good source of quality, cheap writers. Try here: manila.craigslist.com.ph

I use Craigslist as some of my clients believe that it generates cool traffic. So, I post ads for them. As I know it's rather effective if you sell homes or cars FSBO but almost nothing for business.

I'm sure it's the same with many other sites - but I've found that I get a lot of spammy emails people who have seen my ad on craigslist. Just my opinion.

I personally do not. I had a friend who got two jobs off of craigs list and they both were not good places at all. I promoted some work on craigs list but only had one response. Simple is.. its not that great for promo IMHO.

Do you guys use an image in your service posting or strictly text? I wasn't sure if you've noticed a difference in traffic by using one over the other. Thanks.

That's a GREAT idea. How do you get in touch with these business owners? do you charge like a one time consulting fee?

Backlinks on Craigslist are no follow. I know that there are those that say
a nofollow has some juice but if you are using CL for back links you may
    be wasting your time.

    Just my opinion.

Craigslist can be useful sometimes...but it won't make a significant difference.
