How can they lose? They have got the most amount of users than Apple. Plus Apple computer is pricey and not affordable by everyone.
Having more users is no indication of losing customers. Also not an indicator. Microsoft's market share has been dropping somewhat over the last few years while Apple's has increased from 5% or so to something over 10%.
Any links to verify this. All recent market share news for Operating Systems have Mac around the 5.5% mark.
Depends on who you ask. I saw a Windows site that says it's 3.3%. Another said 5.5%. An Apple magazine said 8.8% and ArsTechnica said, in January of last year, it was almost 10%. Ars should be the most unbiased.
Not an indicator? That's complete BS. Look at any successful company. Here's a blatant example: McDonalds. Wendys, Dairy Queen, A&W, everyone agrees makes a better hamburger than McDonalds. Why does McDonalds still come in the lead though? They deliver an acceptable burger for an extremely affordable price in good time. Everyone knows this. Mac will not beat Microsoft because of their catering to the population who are more exquisite and luxurious.
The question was whether Microsoft is losing the battle against the Mac. I take that to mean Microsoft sales declining compared to Macs, which is true. Microsoft's annual quarterly revenue has declined for over a year now, excepting the one just past, while Apple has had record revenue growth over the same period of time. But Microsoft leads in market share, thus proving what I just said: looking at market share is no indication that Microsoft is losing sales while Apple is increasing. Unless they come out with a cheaper version but, yes, the market for Macs is smaller because of price. Along that same line, there was an article somewhere that showed Apple is the dominant player over Windows in that area. It's also been shown that more college students use Macs than Windows. So, if you want to be cool, exquisite and luxuruious, get a Mac.
but why still lancing the lastest operating system for server platform i think microsoft still have power in this field
Your comparison is between Microsoft as a whole and Apple as a whole. Taken literally, the title of the thread is exactly that, but I think the fellow *might* have been making a Windows v. Mac (OSX or whatever) comparison. I don't have time to come up with figures for that at the moment, but it might be a little different than what you project it to be. Apple growth is at the moment is on the back of record iPhone/iPod sales.
You have a point but, without looking it up again, I do believe the 10% number is the desktop market share.
Microsoft is like Google – the 1st and the permanent leader on the world’s market. And the things won’t change in the near future, to my mind.
Microsoft already won the battle...and most of the world is not going to pay the high premium price for a MAC if they can't afford one. Not everyone has tons of money to spend and Windows is cheaper, linux even more so.
No I don't think so, recent MS win7, together with bing made a great success to microsoft. it seems that MS is on the right track and revolved itself with new ideas and innovations.
