There's loads of information for SEO for Google but does anyone know the in's and out's to optimize for Yahoo. I know they are pretty much the same but what if you want to optimize for yahoo only is there any little differences that we should know about?

Yahoo is unpredictable; I know anchor text and exact domain names are more important in Yahoo than Google. Also, Google measures more of statistical user interaction than Yahoo.

Typically, they all use the title tag and meta description. Meta description doesn't have as nearly as much impact on rank. It's used as a marketing message, mainly.

i think when you just created a site, you should first establish it in yahoo before going to google.
the yahoo answers is just the place to if you don't concider listing your site to yahoo directory.

For some reason we tend to do amazing on yahoo and really poorly on google. For example, we rank #2 for "free web hosting" on yahoo (and BING), but not even in the top 50 on google. Very strange.. I could never figure this out.

I've had similar experiences. I understand that meta tags might be weight more in there ranking and some backlinks counted that yahoo doesn't but I'd be curious to see if anyone has done a SEO Strategy ebook or something that outlines them just trying to get high SERPs in Yahoo and Bing and not even worrying about Google. That would be interesting to compare and contrast. Great Comments on this! Thanks! :)

I've tried in past to find the answer with no success. Later I realized, I don't need to do this. Just follow the thumb rules, do analysis and improve your things :)

Unlike Google, Yahoo pays a lot more attention to the internal structure of your website. External links still count, but that is not the main emphasis. You can have a site ranking well in Yahoo with just a few back links. But if your internal linking structure is disorganized, you are going to find it hard to rank well in Yahoo.

Being well organized means you must have a clear linking structure. Try to adopt the hierarchical structure. Also, include a site map to ensure that Yahoo crawls and indexes all the web pages.

Finally, be patient. Yahoo takes a lot longer than Google to index a site. Some webmasters have commented that it takes as long as three months for an entire site to be indexed. If you have a site with a clear and concise linking structure and high quality content, all you have to do is to be patient and wait for Yahoo to index all the pages.

Yes u got it r8. The main SEO process for the these search engines is preety similar. But u hav to keep one thing in mnd is that after u optimize ur site do submit it in the yahoo search engine. Make a sitemap for yahoo specially, which is known as yahoo slurp. create it and submit it in the yahoo search enignes. It will definitely work. If u can submit the feed of the site also into this search engine. Hope it'll work eneough.

    Thank u

The thing is, why waste time with Yahoo when everyone is using Google? Lets say you get to Yahoo first page but only 10 percent of internet users are using Yahoo...then its still better to be on Google's 2nd page than Yahoo's first page.

agree.. day by day, i think more people use google for their main search engine, firefox as their main browser. so better dont waste time in yahoo until our site rock in google first
