What is the best strategy to market your website

I have been building website for years for customer but never really manage my own site.

So I am kinda blank in regards of marketing a website.

After trying to market my site by posting links to some popular site, my visitor count is still very low, like 400 unique per month.

What should be done to get high visitor visit count?

and which one is better, google adword or just posting lots of article in the site?

If you want to be in a high ranked spot on Google you need to be linked by other sites. In other words buy a lot of banner, text, ads. And do a whole lot of link exchanges just so google recognizes you as a top player.

 

The key here is consistency.. This is also my main pitfall...

Try to build just one website for you and build links for that website at lists 5 a day from different sources...

 

Sure,just as you said,consistency is very important.And it will take time for you to promote your new website.
What's more,try to use all the ways you can use to get more trafffic for you website.Things will be better soon.

 

I think posting in blogs and forums like this one is a very effective way to get some attention.
Post some nice information and good content and don't forget to backlink to your website.
The topic should be related. Also use a sig to get some traffic.

 

keep adding unique content and adding backlinks to your site, write / buy some articles and submit them to ezine with the keyword anchor in the resourse box. making sure the keywords you are targeting have good traffic.

and wait.....

 

Add to the site 2-3 times a week
set a ppc budget
post on related blogs with sig where allowed
post of related forums with sig where allowed

 

So content is the best source for traffic or advertising like google adword is better?

 

It depends upon your budget. PPC does bring a lot of targeted traffic to the site but it can always leave a hole in one's pocket. You are take the help of forum posting, article marketing off course, building a free list by offering free content and getting the people to opt-in to your list and then following up with them, social networking are some of the other ways to market your website

 

Well build an email list to build constant return traffic to your site.
find some JV partners to do cross promotion.

Participate in Facebook or twitter to get people involved.
