    Hi,

Im hoping someone can help, my wife has an NC10 netbook and for the past week or so she could not access Gmail plus her anti virus would say it needs to update but would not manage to update, it downloads the update then goes straight back to the begining. Google Mail just Says "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

I first cleared cookies / temp files / history = No luck
I tried Firefox and Gmail does load but still cant get virus to update (MS SE)

Her PC was running XP Home and she fancied Win7 so i done a full format and install on Win7 Home Premium, and to my disbelief it still wont load Gmail or the anti virus.

I have tried connecting direct to internet bypassing the network and still no luck

    Im puzzled! any suggestions please.

    Thanks

Check if the drivers for the NIC card are the correct.

First off I would recommend against installing Windows 7 to a netbook, as the hardware is not particularly designed to run an OS of that scale and you will notice a marked performance decrease from WinXP. With a 1.6G mobile processor and 1GB of RAM, Windows 7 will barely have enough room to breath, especially as time goes on and upgrades/enhancements are added. You might be able to get away with the 32-bit version running with minimal graphic "flare" though.

But regardless, it's a bit hard to narrow the problem down without getting a little more information. Does you browser not connect to any sites or only certain ones? Have you tried downloading MSE from another machine then transferring it to the netbook via thumbdrive? Have you tried to use an alternative browser such as Chrome or Firefox?

    Hi There

Yes check that it is only Gmail and AV updates that you cannot access.

As you have reinstalled Windows then I wouldn't suspect it to be an OS issue

Also is there any other firewall software installed that might be blocking webpages / AV updates?

    Also check your DNS settings

    Regards
